Beocom 6000 mk II - no contact with base

I have recently purchased a Beocom MK II handset, charger and beoline base station (on ebay).  It appears to be quite new but I am having a problem with the handset in that it keeps losing the connection with the base unit: normally when I try to pick up an incoming call.  The handset rings, but when I try to pick up the call, the alert message "no contact with base" comes on screen.

An apparently related issue is that the handset doesn't always record missed calls in the caller id list and the light on the back of the handset does not flash to show that a call has been missed.  Again, when I have noticed this happen, the phone has rung, I have not answered, but when the caller hangs up, there is no record of the call as far as the handset is concerned (even though it did ring).

I have seen in other posts on this site that this sort of behaviour was a problem with some Beocom 6000 MK I handsets which could be fixed with a software update.  Does anyone know what could be causing this issue with the MK II phone and what can be done about it?

     Any help gratefully received!

The red LED alert light on the back of the handset can be switched on/off via the set up menu.  To access the menu press "DOT" followed by 7 then scroll to SET UP MENU. Press GO then scroll to ALERT SIGNAL. Press go and see if it has been switched off.

The problem is more that the handset does not seem to register the call at all, rather than it doesn't blink to alert the a call has been received, but thank you for the menuing tip.  The problem seems of losing contact with base has recently gone away, rather mysteriously, but I would still be interested to know what may have caused it in the first place.
