Is there any cable/converter that makes it possible to connect my Beolab 2 + Beolab 3 to my Macbook?

And if so, where can they be found?

IN THEORY... To physically make the connection you would require US part number 0898127, which will plug into power to keep the "turn on" signal steady as well as adapting the PL to 2 RCA, which you can then adapt to the mini jack. On the other end you would connect the speakers to BeoLab 2 as usual.

I say in theory becuase the adaptor was designed to plug into the LFE channel on a non-B&O reciever and not for the application you're dealing with, though it would take a smarter guy than me to explain why it wouldn't work. Hopefully that's a start though.

Also, don't do it. It's a headphone jack powering a $6,500 speaker set. Your puny music files will not withstand their glory.

I am not sure if this willl work, i am afraid not. The BL2 doesnt have a line in mode, it will switch off if it doesnt get the 5V control power through the cord.

 

The BL3 have the line in mode, so the auto power on/off feature canbe turned off.

picking up an old thread - is this the only part#/way to connect a pair of BL3 to a audio-jack?

Or would a DacMagic or something simillar also do the work?

I'm currently running a hacked aTV with Leopard that then runs BM-Link; i'm not intrested in using the Beo 4 or Beoport functionallity (as i use/controll everything with the apple remote on iPhone) - so i wanted to have the speakers at Line-in and powered on all the time.......

Your system certainly would sound a whole lot better using a DAC. The sound cards in a MAC or a PC for that matter are not really up to the job in my opinion. The DAC has made a big difference to the sound quality of my digital music library and Net Radio.  Even at lossless rates the DAC improves the sound quality, so you can imagine how much better a 320bit track sounds using a DAC.   I feel I actually get more our of my lovely BL 9's now.

There are lots of different DACS on the market- I bought a Cambridge Audio DAC. It appears to have received good reviews and it is relatively inexpensive (around 350 pounds or 700 Australian Dollars).
