Hi,

this sounds like a broken copper wire on the Pal-decoder RGB Board. Check the ground connections and the 8V supply line. I think, it could be the broken ground line  ;)

Defect caps are always possible on these old boards... and after 20 years a lot of them are gone. It's always a good idea to replace them. But this fault is the RGB driver board. I had last week just this fault on a LX5500...

Thank you very much for your reply! I have now checked the ground connections and 8v supply line on the RGB-board - all of them seems to be allright. But perhaps it's because the pcb is cold, and the connections fails when it warms up? Anyway, can I connect the 2pin ground with the mentioned IC-pins directly with a wire? Then I will be sure that the connections are allright... But maybe this will shortcut the pcb? Could be fantastic to bring the MX back to life.

I have an old MX6000 CRT that has started to behave really strange. When I start it it turns green just as normal, but as soon as the picture starts showing, is turns itself off immediately. The model is not one of the listed ones in your topic, but I thought I would ask anyway.

I started it in Video, with nothing connected, and it was fine (black, offcourse) until I connected my Popcorn Hour, at which point it turned itself off again.

Any hint of what might cause this would be very appriciated. The TV is superb as a second set, mostly serving my childrens movies from the Popcorn.

Have you tried tweaking the G2 voltage?

No, I have not. I tried searching the forum for "g2" but no hits. Is it shows on a schematic somewhere? Or could you guide me to where to find it?

G2 is a potentiometer on the picture tube board, next to the focus poti. It's a grey plastic box. At the end of the tube...

 G2 adjusts the voltage on the mask inside the tube.

You can try to adjust G2, the effect is...

- black - normal picture with white lines - normal picture -  too bright picture - very bright with large green or magenta picture - magnetized - killed

So... you can kill the tv and yourself, use a long plastic stick, not a metal screwdriver, there is some high voltage on this board~ around 200V.

Do not turn around like crazy, just small steps, you can kill the picture tube with wrong adjustments... not at once, it takes more than some seconds. So you have a good chance that you can make the right adjustments.

But i believe, that's a complete different defect, probably the RGB driver, power supply or our friends... the bad caps.

Next week there will be a Workshop for the MX4000/6000.

I am sure this is a standard problem and somebody can help me out quickl:.

Colour in picture takes some time to come or doesn't come at all, while Menu and Teletext is in colour.

I know it could be the trimmer -- but where is it? (It's an LX6000)

I wonder if you may be able to shed a little light on a fault i have on my beovision VCR 28" type 8133. At present it's showing no sign of life at all, i have gone into the fault flow sheets from this sight the fuse on PCB 60 is ok. I am getting a supply current to the smoothing cap "450V"on The Main Power Supply PCB 4 as it charges up ok (about 370V) when i plug in the mains lead. Ive been told the fault is the starting circuit, on the fault flow fault chart it mentions, 14P10 pin 11 to pin 1 approx 8 volts specified i read about 1.5V DC,and 14P10 pin 11 to pin 2 approx 5V DC i read .5V. Obviously i'm not even getting enough for the start up to work do you have any suggestions as to the possible likely suspect. Also do you have a circuit diagram i could have a copy of of PCB 14 & PCB 4 if at all possable to help with fault tracing.

many thanks for this really helpful guide. Unfortunately my LX 5500 has a fault that is not directly covered here.

It shows horizontal stripes in the picture. Everything else is just fine. I thought i could solve it with a little bit of soldering, but unfortunately the b&o dealer tried that before (looks very bad...)

So i read a lot about defektive Caps and which of them might couse this failure. I assume it is somewhere in the area of the line transformer.

So if anyone had the same problem or could point me in the right direction this would be very helpfull.

Does a repair guide with oscillograms exist? 

I'm an engineer, but not a TV mechanic....

 what happens when you press "TEXT" ? Does Videotext also show these distortions?  

And AV1/AV2 inputs? Playback with Vtape or DVD?

If Videotext works fine, then it's the tuner section, maybe the RGB decoder unit.

If AV1/AV2 work fine, then it's the tuner board.

Have seen similar problems before and it was the caps around the vertical deflection chip ... maybe worth checking ... also might be worth looking at the pal decoder board ... had one of these at fault last week.

Hi, planned to pick up a MX6000 soon, it`s dead and will not power up, the owner tells me.

Just wondering if anybody had a list over the usual caps that needs replacing? So I could order them in advance. Maybe the transistors that commonly fails also and any other parts.

Hi, I have a MX5500 and the problem with that is, that there seems to be a patch of dust behind the contrast glass screen. How do I remove that?

In smaller MX models it appears to be plastic and very easily removed, but this one, I think, is glass. 

Another question, does this set work with Video Terminal, or does it require BL1000? Or, are all options, like Sound and Picture settings, possible with Beo4?

Hi,

to remove the contrast glass screen:

remove rear cover 4 (5, if sat modul) bolts

remove the plastic strips over and under the glass screen, they are clipsed. take care not to break them

remove 4 bolts, then you can take off the glass screen. Do not drop the glass when you open the last bolt...

 

The MX5500 works perfectly with the BL1000, all options are possible.

I dont have the Video Terminal, but i think it will work almost like the BL1000.

The Beo4 will work, but Sound and Picture settings are a pain...

This isn't strictly necessary, although it makes the job a bit easier... the "official" way is to just push the plastic strip in from the front near the corner - it goes in some millimeters, and then you can pry the end of the strip outwards and release it from the clip. Doesn't even need any tools, a hard fingernail is enough

Try not to nick the speaker fabric when working with the lower strip. It can be a b*tch to put back...

The Video Terminal that works is obviously the one that looks like a Beolink 1000. The older "Mars bar", which also was called a Video Terminal, will not work.

Yes, I've seen that Beo4 is not ideal remote for this TV, but what about Video Terminal?

Mika, is MX5500 different from MX2000 in regards of remote? I mean, the user manual for MX2000 is based on the mars bar.

Oh, have to look for a BL1000 then.

That's right - unfortunately the older Video Terminal, which was still used with the MX2000, does nothing with the later sets that use Beolink 1000 compatible codes.

There are also cheap plastic imitations (< 20 euros) of the Beolink 1000 available on eBay for example, if you are just trying to offload your extra tv 

Is there any news on the workbench for the MX6000? I have now taken out the electronics and thought I would start with the caps on the power supply, which in my set is located on the main board, right?

Do you have a suggestion on in what order to replace things? What caps should I replace first? The TV starts up, shows a green LED, but as soon as it's about to produce a picture, it goes into standby, with red LED.

Any help is appreciated!

hi,

i have a MX5500 type 3260 with following problem:

Picture is green, looks like red is missing. Teletext and onscreen menue are normal with all colours. i have replaced some c's and resoldered the main pcb and screen pcb.

The error occours with video / dvd as well.

may be the RGB pcb with TDA3506 is not working correct. What can i test or replace?

When red is missing and the picture is green, maybe complete green or flashing green or red, then the defect is probably on the PAL decoder RGB driver board. It's already shown on page 1...

 Check ground and 8V, there are cracks in the copper lines.

 You see the 2-pin connector? This is ground, check the connections to the chips, this connection fails sometimes.

I have a MX4500. When I prees the power switch it blows the fuse. I have change tr1, c1, c5, c7, d1 ,d2 from the mains filter board but it keeps blow the fuse. Can you help me? Any suggestions?

 MX4500 ??? US-model? The MX4500 has a Thomson ICC5 chassis and nothing to do with the european MX5500.

If it is compatible to the european MX3500/5500, then i would suspect TR8 BU508A and C9 220uF on the mainboard, remove them for the test.

Can you show us a picture of the mainboard?

It's a European model.
