Thanks for the correction, a much more reasonable price. I am looking forward to seeing the BS5 but I certainly won't be buying one because I don't really make use of digital media. I only play music from my PC when I am using it and I had to rip my CDs to store stuff on the SD card for use with my BeoSound 3. I get much more pleasure having my CDs, loading them in the BS9000 (previously the BS2300), reading the covers while listening to the tunes, seeing the CD spinning, the dimmed lights etc. I am still taking an interest in the digital age because at some point it will be the norm but I won't invest in it for a good few years I am sure of that. No need. Also, I don't like the idea of tv's becoming media centres. Already I don't like all the Sky stuff you can do like gamble through your tv, surf the web through it, play games, and whatever else they come out with. To me my tv is for watching films and tv programs! I use my PC to go online, I go to real life casinos to gamble and my BS9000 does the rest! LOL. Just me, but honestly I find it really hard to adjust because I love what I have already. Call me a traditionalist I suppose. Simon.

Guess we´ll have to wait and see. The dealer also told me that they expect it to ship this spring and I got an invite to see it demoed. What I want out of this is a bs4 with a HD and wireless connection. He said the pricing was supposed to be somewhere between 30-40k swedish, about the same as bc2.

Torben Ballegaard said something about a line of new digital audio products in the pipeline. I guess we will see them quite soon. Sooner than extected. BS5 has a harddrive and wireless internetconnection. And it`s a stand alone product.

Ah, so it is more like I expected. Sounds a little like a mix of the BC2 and BS4, with the facility to store digital audio (I guess if it's wireless, it will be audio-only though) and playback through speakers in different locations in your house. I was hoping it would store/download digital video and connect to your TV, as well as audio playback. Beofan, any idea if it's an audio-only product (although I guess I can answer that myself with the 'beosound' tag)?

I think its audio only, otherwise they would call it center. Beocenter. Similiar to the BC6 where they combine TV and radio. The new speaker is prob the BL10, the one that goes below the plasma, http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/thread/61988.aspx

BS5 is an audio product not a audio and video product. I think it can't store video on its hard drive.

I suppose I will ask another question. Will Beosound 5 be able to interface with Mac iTunes and play AAC lossless files? Or is it closer to being like Apple TV in that you use a computer to wirelessly copy music files to Beosound 5? However that is closer in function to Beomedia 1. I know. I should just wait. The problem is tomorrow Steve Jobs might talk me into an altogether different product. What a dilemma.

rsmyth: Will this be something similar to Linn's Klimax DS? In the sense that it streams from a hard drive. Wonder if the Beo5 will have much influence over the control, flicking between covers like on my Serenata, on Beo 5 would be a nice feature. I have to say I'm quite interested in how the Beosound 5 turns out.
I too think beo5 will have some role in the way you select tracks etc.... Does sound promising to be honest allbeit minus the cd drive... maybe there is something else in the pipeline for a new CD player??

I saw this clip on youtube and I just thaught: "he, this is almost the same principe as the Beosound 5, isn't it ?" In the middle of the clip you see the B&W component... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO4X6Qzrvso

That seems pretty cool, the wireless speakers would be handy. I wonder how much the unit on its own costs, if a 5.1 system costs 15,000 euros... Could be roughly the same as BeoSound 5 is rumored to be?

don't know for sure but I think the BS5 is like the B&W system the price of the pv1 is about 1500,- euro's. The fronts look like they're based on the nowadays XT4's with a price of 2500,- euro's. Include the Ice power amps and it will cost around 3500,- a pair. The center for around 1000,- and the rears about 3000,-. So the price of the component will be around 6000,- euros btw, the speakers looks cool too, and they use Ice power from B&O like the man said .

I was hoping we'd have seen the BS-5 in spring this year, hopefully it's going to live up to our expectations.

>>I have heard today that the BS-5 will come out at the end of this year, do not know why.<< I thought that in conjunction with the lay off of Torben it was mentioned that a new product launch would be delayed. I was actually eyeing for somebody to post that it is BS5. JK

Unless there has been a recent disaster...(Looking at you Torben...) the plan is to release BeoSound 5 at the end of the 'Fiscal Year', which puts it in April/May. Russ
