    Beosound 5

    Hi,

My local dealer just told me that there will be a Besound 5 coming out this spring. From his information it will look like Besound 4 but with the addition of a harddrive and a display which will use Coverflow similar to iTunes. Do you know anything about this?

My dealer told me that it would have cover flow, but not that it would look like the BS4...

I believe it will be all black like BS4.

I don't think aluminium is going to be used.

When Mr Anders(son) say "think BeoCenter 2", he thinks about the wheel concept.

    Am i right ?

No, that it will be a "screen" and a hideaway box same as BC2 concept

    Re: Beosound 5

I`ve described it quite well in an earlier post, according to the folks at my dealers shop who has seen it. The connection to BC2 is the black cablebox. It´s like a tabletPC with a big screen. In the right side theres a nav. wheel in aluminium. You use this wheel to navigate through your music collection like cover flow. Think of the same way you navigate with covers in Serenata. The connection to BS4 is size.

    It´s not magic - it´s Bang & Olufsen

Video #5 of the "Star of the Day" gives a glimpse of the new Beosound 5.

Watch closely at the final 5 seconds of the flash video.

My dealer has told me their will be a touch sensitive aluminium ring for some form of navigation. Unfortunately that is all I could squeeze out of him Smile

I think Roger once posted that they would turn the BC2 into some sort of all around control device. Maybe it integrates with BC2/BS4 and you can choose the music right on it via the display and wheel. Then it would make more sense not to have a CD included. So the visible piece of the BS5 is not much more then an add on, a 2 way remote.

Perhaps, although I doubt it. I'm sure it will be more of a standalone product. Besides, you can't charge £1700 for a BS4 and then £3.6K for the forthcoming BS5, if it is an 'add-on' to your existing music system. ie. a controller of digital AV. I can use my Mac via Airport Express, connected to the AUX on my BS4, for that!

I heard the BeoSound 5 was going to be quite a bit more than £3600!

    Re: Beosound 5

Closer to £5,000 is what most people seem to be suggesting but we'll have to wait and see. That will be quite a step up from previous music centres, which might put some people off, we'll see. I imagine the BS5 to look very similar to the BC2 and BS3. Some sort of hybrid between the two. I am really quite intrigued to see what it will be capable of. Normally I put design first with B&O products but in this case I think I will be more interested in its functionality because with the digital age and from an integrative viewpoint that's got to take priority. I don't think we are ever going to have too much to worry about with B&O designs generally. Although not all B&O products have hit the mark for me in the same way that say an AV9000, a BS9000 and a BeoLink 7000 and practically all the speakers have done, I would certainly never say there has been a bad design from B&O. Second-hand B&O equipment represents the best possible value for money in terms of what you get, regardless of the product I would say.

    Well you can buy a 200$ DVD player versus a 4600$ BC2.

I am thinking that the 2 way remote concept with the aluminum touch  wheel will have enough appeal to justify that price. Workmanship and design. It may not much be targeted for the typical BS4 customer but for the Beoliving room. 5000$ as part of a 40,000$ installation for digital music doesn't seem that much.

Also, you will need likely a PC or Mac to rip your CD collections, there is no way that they compete with a 100$ airport express regardless how they price. It's all about the excitement that the tiny piece of aluminum and glass will raise. That has to justify the 5000$ tag.

The BS5 and a BC 6 or BV7 32 would get me back to a dealer to look and maybe buy stuff.

    Cheers
