They forced me to swap my BEO 4 cinema for a Beo 5 - Did they trick me?
Now I am sitting here with my Beo5 and I am wondering what happened here. On Saturday I went to my BO Dealer, where I bought my Beovision 7-32 with Beolab 3+ Sub+BEO 4 CINEMA (Glow in the dark) on x-mas 2006. But this day there was an other salesman. I came in to have a look for the new Beo 5 - and when I told him, that I have a BEO 4 Cinema he told me, that I have to exchange it for a BEO 5 because B&O stopped making spare parts for the BEO 4 Cinema. He also asked me to bring it with the original packing (no problem for me, because I kept it) - but what does he needs the packing for for? I payed for the BEO 4 cinema 490 EUR and now I read in this forum that it is still sold by some people ( I dont know if it is sold by B&O Dealers) in the Netherland für 650-700 EUR? That made me wondering... Did my B&O Dealer tricked me? I had to pay the difference (50 EUR) to get the BEO 5 and I do like it, but somehow I liked the BEO 4 cinema too. Maybe to late for those thoughts? Has anyone heard of this exchange by B&O? I really ask myself if everything went right here!.

Sounds very odd to me! I would have kept it! It was yours!

hmmm.. did the salesman fancy a Beo4 Cinema for himself by any chance? You're the customer, and it was your Beo4 Cinema (i have one and love mine too) - so you should have told him to shove off !!! Odd... Lee

Sounds very strange to me. I never heard of a dealer that "forced" a costumer to trade in any product if it was not the costumer who asked for it. Could it have been that the dealer just needed that Beo4 Cinema?

well, he didn't really pay for the Beo5, as he traded in the Beo4 Cinema. Can anybody tell me if the Beo4-Cinema is still in the product range. If not, the situation would be obvious?!

I agree. Beo4 Cinema is a pretty rare remote and I wish I had one. I would not have swapped one for a Beo5 as they are not being made in limited supply. If you miss your Beo4 Cinema, I would ask your dealer to have it back and say the Beo5 didn't live up to expectations if you really feel you need an excuse.

But the salesman can use some business technics to manipulate the client and convince him to take some decisions that he didn't want to, at first. My advice : tomorrow morning, give a call to the salesman and let him know that you aren't satisfied at all with your Beo5. Then inform him that you want your Beo4 cinema back. Guy

I agree! The Beo5 is only really useful if you have multiple setups, where you can program it for use with all the different products... the cinema remote is pretty darn rare, your dealer sounds a tad dodgy

Re: They forced me to swap my BEO 4 cinema for a Beo 5 - Did they trick me?
Maybe the word "forced" was a bit to harsh - But you know what a salesman can do to you (at least to me): In fact, a came to have a look for the new beo 5, so he knew I was interested in it. Then he told me that I have the chance (once in lifetime ;-) ) to exchange (trade in because I had to pay the difference 50 EUR (490 beo4 vs. 540 beo5) the BEO 4 (what he did not knew, was the condition: it was like new, including the Box and papers) for the BEO 5, because of the not existing spare parts. I can live with both remotes - both have their advantages: The BEO5 is costumizable, and has a very good light and nice hard-buttons, But the Monitor-housing on top feels a bit cheap (its just plastic) The beo 4 cinema is build like a brick! very nice to touch - But I do not like the touch of the buttons and when the batteries are getting weaker, the light of the beo4 gets dimmer more and more - after some time you do not see what button to press in the dark. So I may keep the Beo5 - but I do want to know if they just wanted to get hands on my BEO4 to sell it to someone else for 790 EUR or so. Has anyone information if their exists an exchange program? I never heard of it before. Thanks for all your answers. Before I forget: This happened in Germany My last question - would you keep the BEO 5?

Hello, To answer to your last question, I will keep the Beo4 Cinema at home and bring the Beo5 back to the salesman. Cheers, Guy

Re: They forced me to swap my BEO 4 cinema for a Beo 5 - Did they trick me?
I would demand the Beo4 back! The talk about spare parts sounds like rubbish. Most of the parts must be the same as in a normal Beo4. And B&O keep spare parts for many years for every product.

Re: They forced me to swap my BEO 4 cinema for a Beo 5 - Did they trick me?
Must be a special thing of Bang & Olufsen Germany. Very strange! I got my Beo 4 Cinema in October 07 from a german dealer, after iI had payed 465 Euro and waited 6 weeks (!). But the remote did not work at all. So I sent it back. Nothing happened. After 4 weeks and some telephone calls with the dealer I was informed, that B&O Germany will keep the Cinema, because spare parts are no longer available...(??!!??). They offered a Beo 5 instead, but I had one already. So, after 2 weeks again (and some telephone calls with the dealer) I had my money back. I think I will inform B&O Struer about this....
Regards
Stefan

Re: They forced me to swap my BEO 4 cinema for a Beo 5 - Did they trick me?
As far as I know B&O (Struer) are "calling back" all Beo4 Cinema-remontes, also from the dealers. It seems that there were some issues with the backlight and the overall quality (keys got worn/used very fast, battery life rather short). The information that there are no more spare parts available is issued from Struer, so I am afraid that it could be true. my two cents Foxtrott

Thank you - I feel much better now. I am going to keep my beo 5 - If I ever get it to work: First I got a Box without manual and Software, now I got the software via rapidshare from my dealer - but he forgot to give me a password. Seems to be a major challenge to get this thing to work!

Your dealer shouldn't have given you the software as far as I'm aware.

I think you are right!! If not, I have to say that that remote really looks great. If you have some spare time, anders, I can sent you my Beo4 to make it white too, or will a picture be enough???
