    OT - Broadband router help

I know its waaaaaaaaaaay OT but I need some help/advice with my router??

I think my router is unlocked Surprise  and I think someone is using my broadband! I only found out about this the other day when I used my iphone to browse and found no password to log onto my router!

So.. how can I add a password? it is a netgear adsl model: DG834G v3.  I have checked the online manual but nothing is in there.

You have to log in to the routers IP address which will probably be

    192.168.0.1 or

    192.168.2.1

the paperwork that came with will tell you exactly, you will then need to either go to setting or security I can't remember which one off hand & set up your secure access for wireless & while your there password protect access to the actual router for admin but there should also be at Tab in which you will be able to set up mac address access, basically if your mac address is not recognized by the router then you will not be able to use it for wireless access, so be sure to have to hand all of the MAC address's of the computers you want to have access,

    hope this helps

    In your browser type http://192.168.0.1

    In Wireless Settings

Security Option choose:- WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)

WPA-PSK Security Encryption:- choose your own password:-

    Job done

also read up about Wireless Station Access List for extra protection.

After entering the i.p number above you will be asked for a username and password before being gaining access to and being able to change any router settings.

These are usually admin & admin, sometimes admin & password and if your ISP is Sky it will be admin & sky.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

Well, thats what I am not 100% sure off.. but my broadband had been really slow and every now and then the lights would be flashing like mad when my pc and laptop is switched off... I didnt think anything of it until I used my iphone to browse and found that I could connect to my router with no password.. eek.. and this is after I helped set my neighbours and harp on about securing his router.. Whistle

When I checked how much I had been downloading etc, it was considerably more than I know I have been using hence the suspicion..

Now the password has been set, my internet is fast! just how it used to be! Must be someone local and looks like the router has been accessed...

Does vista keep a record/log of all connections or attempted connects?
