Hello and a B&O 5000 power transforming question

Hello from a new member ...

I moved to Prague from Canada.  I brought with me a very old and very beautiful B&O 5000 4 component system.  While some other equipment I brought works over 220V-->100V transformers, B&O won't. Is there a way of replacing the power supply system inside the units. do you know?

It should be possible to link the transformer for 110V operation, I am at work now but I can check when I get home tonight

I have just had a quick look at the service manual for the 5000 and it shows the transformer as suitable for 110V operation however the Beocord 5000 shows a 240V transformer in the UK but I can have a look inside one and confirm tomorrow, I take it you have a CD50 and beogram if you let me know I can check these

Thank you all for the great responses - just to make sure: I have a Canadian (110V) system and need to connect it to a European 220 current (there is also difference in frquency 50 --> 60 Hz).

The system consists of the receiver, tape deck, turntable and CD (50) player.

Thanks. This is a basic explanation of what a transformer is. I have several. The problem is, IMHO, that the system requires also a very precise draw which my transformers (I have  from 50W to 1800W) simply do not provide.  I guess I could buy a very expensive, large transformer but where would I hide it :)

Just had a quick look at the service manual, and I can see no obvious difference in the US/Canadian model and the EU model bar the transformer. A non functioning 5000 could prove to be a useful donor!

How would one go about finding such a donor ?

Ihad a quick look at the back of the CD50 and if you remove the lid there is a voltage selector at the back. I suspect that all the Beomaster 5000 are fitted with the same transformers and you would only have to change the links, if not I have a spare transformer but it is heavy and postage will be expensive. I can take a photo of my transformer and you can compare it to yours

You guys were right! Instead of "changer" I bought a real transformer and it now works :-).

Stuart, what do you mean by "links"? Is there something insight the uniits where a transformer can be switched?

Thank you all for your help.

You have to resolder the connections on the transformer as shown in the service manual, I can copy you the information if required
