    Beolab 4000 vs Beolab 8000

An previous post compared the 6000 with the 8000. Regarding the price of the speakers, a comparison between the beolab 4000 - beolab 8000 does also make sense.

I think from a design point of view both are very B&O, perhaps the 4000's are a bit less 90's. Does the sound differ much? On paper the 8000 is more powerfull, but it is the quality of the sound that interests me. I'm looking for a speaker that gives a natural sound, especially with classical music.

I have 4000s and have listened to 8000s extensively. The 8000s are superior in my view by a fair margin. Similar levels of bass but the 8000s seem more detailed and a little less boomy than the 4000s. The 4000s will also shriek earlier when going loud! Distortion in the top end I suppose. I have not heard the new 4000s with the ICE amplifiers though.

The 4000s are much easier to position though!

Hmmmm... I just got some used ones.  When did they start using ICE amps?  Is there a way to tell whether or not mine have that?

The Beolab 8000 are the best speakers at a reasonable price, after you've got to go Beolab 9 or 5, but the price is much more.

Re: Beolab 4000 vs Beolab 8000

I plan to use the speakers with a beocenter 9500, currently using old but in my opinion beautiful sounding s45-2's passive speakers.

Why new speakers then? Well, thinking newer active speakers would sound even better, and a better match with the sleek modern Jensen design.

Get a pair of S120s or S75s. Cheaper and I wouldn't be surprised if they outperformed the 4000s!

Have anyone listened to 4000 MK II and compared them to the 4000 Mk I ?

Is the sound better or ?

    Dear All:

The BL 8000 are better than BL 4000 for your needs, classical music.  The sound is fuller; the highs are clearer and brighter; mids are dynamic; however, bass is limited.  You will not be able to pump-out anything less 45hz.   In other words, you will need the BL 2 for real lows; though, I find the BL 2 a bit 'slow.'

Ah okay, so it's very new.  Mine have the on/off switch.  Eh, they still sound good for what I do with them which is merely attach them to the RCA outputs on my TV.  Bose Mediamate my butt!  The BL4000 smoke them.  And for the outrageously marked up price of the Bose thing I was able to get used BL4000s for the same price.  Woohoo!

I think the Mk 1 is the one to have. I am worried that the Mk 2 has ICE for financial reasons rather than sound quality.
