    BL 8000 UPGRADE

i've got a pair of BL8000's that are probably 10 years old....I've heard about the upgrade to the amps??  to a more modern design...

Does anyone have experience on how this upgrade/modification sounds??? and the cost involved???

Also, can I do this myself??

    THanks,,

It was an upgrade to the cross over i think. To my ears it seemed to open up the midband a little and maybe a little more weight to the bass.

Others thoughts on this change will be interesting.

The  only electronic changes have been to the protection circuits so it is now more difficult to burn out the tweeters in particular. The same mod was done to all the active speakers at that time.

The 8000 woofers (!) were also changed slightly on the 8000's. The dust cone want from convex to concave.

I have had loads of pairs of 8000's and to my ears there are no sonic differences!!!!

Upgrade components are supplied with all replacement tweeters.

    Regards Graham

I can't hear the difference either. But the protection circuit is better. However if yours are 10 years old, you clearly have a good pair!!

Save your money for a BL2 instead. That´s the upgrade to do with a pair of BL 8000.

    or:

save money, trade in the BL8000 and get some BL9. That is what I would do

Interesting debate.  Just last week I visited my dealer to listen to some 9s but was disapointed.  I much prefered the sound of the 8000s and I think the addition of a BL2 helped.  This combination costs less and in my opinion looked better too.

    Re: BL 8000 UPGRADE

I upgraded the 8000's some time ago and thought the process was well worth it. There are various levels of component replacement depending on the version and age of the speaker. For a quote give your dealer the serial number or model number for each speaker (they should be the same unless a speaker was changed).

Beolab 8000's are iconic speakers, great sounding and worth hanging on to.
