    Avant startup source question.

I have a CCTV camera plugged into the yellow jack-plug at the top rear of my Avant.
Every time I switch on a video source (Sat/Tv etc) the Avant always starts by displaying the CCTV first, therefore, I have to press Satt a second time.
Does anybody know if there is a way to make it ignore this and go straight to whatever I pressed?
Your input would be much appreciated.

    Re: Avant startup source question.

This may be a better way . Buy a RF modulator connect the cctv to the modulator then connect your  TV cable thru the modulator and back to your Advant  you should then be able to give your cctv a channel no.  The bueaty of this way is if you have masterlink tv and beoport with a tv card in your pc  you can call up this channel at any time.Hope this helps

P.S. this is my first post

    Hi Andy,

What kind of Avant do you have, type nr?

The problem is that the avant automatically detects videosignal on the Camcord input.

    You can try :

    1. Use the decoderscart socket om the back, this supports also CVBS and you can probably give it name like VAux, Vtape2. This depends on the type of Avant.

If you can't give it a name, then probably you can use TV 99 and tune that channel to the decodersocket (in the more option at tuningmenu)

After pressing TV 99 it searches for videosignal at the decoderinput.

    2. Maybe you can rename the Camcorder to VAux in the setup menu.

Go to the menu, setup, and go to "Menu" line and press menu while you're standing on it.

It depends on the type of software, but you can rename Camcord to Vaux. Perhaps it stops responding automatically to the videosignal of the CCTV. I never tried it, but maybe it helps.

My Camera is plugged into the Avant's SCART connection. I press VTAPE to view it. You could buy a SCART convertor and try that?

    Re: Avant startup source question.

Thanks to all three of you for your kind replies and welcome to the forum, Rhone.
Problem with all of these solutions is the lack of a spare scart socket. There are three scarts, one has my Sky+ box in it, one has my Kikinoko DVD/HD recorder in and the other connects to the built-in VCR. Scart splitter is look like an option.

With the RF modulator there is no need for a scart socket.Check out this link to see if this helps

    Thanks Rhone.

I'll look into that but then I will have to decide whether it's worth £30 to solve an only slightly annoying problem

You can buy auto-select scart multi source boxes for less than 15quid from CPC.

Normally it also can be used as an input when you haven't any free Scart connector, only problem is to get the STB to show whats coming in the VCR output, when you don't have the pin 8 in the scart cable to do it automatic

Try the auto switch - how bad can it be for a Tenner?

    The Stig - ver. 1.4:
Does the Sky + box have a VCR Scart output / input?

If the Sky box doesn't have an input, probably the DVD/HD has one.

Most of the DVD/HD recorders has 2 scartsockets. 1 goes to the TV and the other is probably named "VCR".

Also most of the time the videosignal connected to the "VCR"input is linked to the "TV" /input/output when the recorder is in standby.

So select  "DVD" and you'll get the CCTV when the recorder is in standby, otherwise you will get the picture from the recorder when you switch it on.
