having fiddled w/ a bg5500 all afternoon... i believe it is fine w/ the 5000. (i have both) as i understand it -the bg5000 is the radial / the bg5005 is the tangential / the bg5500 is simply a rebadged 5005. the name was changed when the 5500 series was launched.
on another note... what other port on a bm5000 could i attach the 5500 to as the phono port is consumed by the bg5000 (i.e. i would have 2 tables attached simultaneously)
