    Re: Speakers for beosound 2300

    Hi JONNIE

You're going to struggle somewhat with a budget of £200. That certainly rules out any active speakers (speakers that have their own amplifier built in) such as the Beolab 4 and Beolab 4000.

On the Passive side (speakers that use a seperate amp) you could go for a pair of CX50 or CX100 and use an amp - either a B&O MCL2P or another make of amp (I use a Quad 405-2 with my 2300). With the CX speakers you'll have to be prepared to re-foam the drivers. MCL2P amps normally go for around £200 on their own but sometimes go for less.

If the budget is strict I would go for a Quad 303 (£110) like this

CX100  in need of re-foaming (£50)  like these

and then connecting lead and new foams (£50).  like this   and this

The great thing about doing this is that at a later date you can add a B&O Cona sub-woofer (about £120) which will greatly enhance the lower frequencies.   like this, althought this one was very tatty and looks like it didn't sell for £50

    Good luck!

    Cheers

    Nigel

EDIT - checking on ebay MCL2P price now seems to be £60 - £70..... Someone else posted the other day that prices seem to be falling and it definitely seems to be a buyers market....if I hadn't bid on this this, it would have sold for £107.......

In my opinion the Beolabs 2500 are worth a try" http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=368

These are active speakers and should be available second hand for less than 200 GBP. They do they job well and they fit the Besound 2300 very well!

Don't think I've ever seen a a pair for less than £250 and they're more usually this sort of money Beolab-2500-active-speakers

But if you can stretch to whatever you can find a pair for then yes, wasti is absolutely right - this would be a very good, simpler and aesthetically more pleasing option! (Either solution would be about half the cost of the Beolab4 option you were exploring in another thread and accoustically just as good)

If money is really tight then you could always consider Beolab-2000 - £150 seems to be the going rate at the moment

    Cheers

    Nigel

    Re: Speakers for beosound 2300

I wouldn't even dream of using Beolab 4's, they're only any good as PC speakers IMO.

Beolab 2500's are easily going to be the neatest & cheapest solution which will fulfil your needs. I agree with Nigel though, you'll struggle to find any decent ones for less than £250 (minimum).

As for Beolab 2000's - does the 2300 support masterlink? You need this for these as they are only link speakers - I have a feeling you may need to add a converter which will push the price up towards the cost of some BL2500's.

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.
