Sorry if this has been discussed before.

I have a beogram 5005 but the needle needs replacing in the pickup.  The normal ebay / froogle searches don't come up with anything on the cheaper side of things.

From what I gather the pickup cannot be repaired, is there a cheaper alternative to be able to play records again, maybe a different stylus model or manufacturer?

They can be repaired and this is the cheapest option - Axel in Germany will retip it - or upgrade it to an MMC2 if you want! The latter is obviously expensive! Look in the articles - his web link is there - at work so don't have it to hand!

Thank you for both replies.  I have sent an email to Axel to get a price to repair the pickup.  If high I will let you know MMC4 about buying yours.

Axel charges circa100 Euros to re-tip a MMC4. He doesn't just re-tip but also replaces the rubber suspension that can / nearly always does perish over the years. If Axel charged double it would still be better value than buying any second hand MMC.
