    Static clicking interference noise....any ideas?

    Hi All,

Recently I've started getting an intermittant static-sounding interference through all 4 audio speakers on my system. It's not occurring everytime I use it, but it's happening too much for my liking. I cant figure whats causing it & it comes and goes at random.

It's happening on all sources and the static clicking sound comes from all speakers equally. When it occurs it can be on CD playback, Radio, Phono and listening to TV/DVD through A.AUX.

I can be listening to say radio or a cd for say 5, 10, 20, 30 minutes without it happening, then all of a sudden it will start up...a rapid and seamingly random rapid static click-click-click...

The set up is BS6500/7000 connected to Penta II's (with young Powerlink cables from Steve) and Redline 60.2's.

Any ideas what's causing this anyone? It's mighty annoying Confused Angry

Are you running any high current/high wattage appliances on the same circuit?

There are instances of where things like a microwave have caused similar symptoms.

Thats way too technical for me Evan Big Smile

Is there any kind of test that can be carried out on that theory for a more definate diagnosis?

As is seems to be a someone intermittant fault, could that still mean a capacitor issue?

    Thanks

I tend to agree with Evan, preamp. But try to disconnect all attached sources like CD, BG and tape decks, allso chech if the sound comes from all speakers, Disconnect and listen to one pair a time. If the sound disapears doing check connect one item at a time and when it appears again you have the failing component, if not, its your amp, and if its your amp it may be preamp seccion.

Re: Static clicking interference noise....any ideas?

Sorry Michael, I was busy and just wanted to get the ball rolling for you.

A capacitor issue could strike anywhere and anytime considering your equipment's age. Me and a few others would recommend that you do [or have someone else do] a complete re-cap of your stack. Should also prevent further odd faults down the road.

I would still follow Søren's direction and test your pieces.

Re: Static clicking interference noise....any ideas?

Its the right direction to go with a recap, but as I do not like to do something before I find the failure source, I would try to find the failure first, I do change caps as a preventive maintenance also on equipment with no failures, but if there are failures I want to know why and where.

A recap will give you a better sounding and working equipment considering the age of your items, I would at the same time take look at your RL 60s, sorrounds and crossovers

Re: Static clicking interference noise....any ideas?

    Thanks for your help guys

Actually, the fault has not resurfaced since my original posting & I've had the A.Aux (TV/DVD sound through all 4 speakers) on for over 15 hours over this last weekend.

If it were to start happening much more often, I would perhaps follow Soren's suggestion of trying to establish where the fault originates from - although at a guess I would say the Beomaster.

To be honest I wouldn't bother messing about finding someone/sending it off for repair - i'd just bang the beomaster on ebay, flog it for spares/repairs, then just buy another on ebay, or through lifestyle, or the other pre-owned sellers.

Thanks for your assistance in any case.

    Regards
