    Beogram 6002

Having problems with a recently aquired Beogram 6002. It plays OK with a Beomaster 6000 but there is some background buzzing noise audible between tracks or during quiet passages. I tried the deck on a BC9500 and the noise is much worse - more of a low rumble. Is there a compatibility issue with the 9500? What is the likely source of the interference?

I would look at the DIN plug - there will probably be a loose wire to the casing. I suggest the difference in sound could be due to the angle the DIN plug is pressed in at. Should be identical otherwise.

Diagnosis correct. I tried another 7/7 cable using the 9500 and all is OK including datalink. With the 6000 the datalink still does'nt work. Perhaps there is an additional fault with this amp but at least I know the deck is OK. Many thanks.

There is a special 7 pin Phono lead - it has extra shielding compared to the normal lead. If you have an 8000 system, the lead from the Beogram usually has Phono written on it on a sticker for this reason. You obviously know the 6002 only has one way Datalink.

That's useful to know. The instructions for the 6002 state cable part 6270213 is required. I was'nt aware it was any different from a normal B&O 7/7 cable for e.g. to connect the Beocord 8000. I'll try to get the special phono one from the dealer.

The 9500 will start the deck and stop it with a change to another source. I would have preferred a 6006 or 8000 but this was a £50 Ebay purchase so can't complain. It just needed a good clean and looked like it had been stored for many years.

I have all this type of deck, and the 6002 is really rather a gem. It does not have the figures to match the 8000/6006/8002, but it sounds very nice and is nice and simple!! Think of it as a basic 4002 with simple datalink, and you are not far off the mark. I certainly could not tell the difference between this and an 8002 with the same cartridge! It has the same failings of cheap plastic and double sided tape that rots but as it costs so much less, it doesn't seem to matter so much. The standard MMC3 is lovely - my MMC3 is now in the possession of a certain Mr Peronneau - nice chap!

That's a cracking price & no you really CAN'T complain at that - well done.

    Chris.

@ Peter nicely snuck in stealth thread re:- Bill Perenneau - impressive, but then again you have always had impeccible taste.

It does however beg the question - why does he have your MMC3?Hmm

I met him in a B&O shop looking for a cartridge! Seemed a nice chap - I didn't know who he was - so I offered him one of mine!

I don't know about so me - I think it is so BeoWorld - I notice you are giving away a couple of SP cartridges yourself - and I still remember being handed over a BC3600 in a car park near Leeds! I am afraid I never found out what became of that!

Ah well  - I suppose you're right Peter.

I've given away many things of value in my time & always vow on every occasion where I've been taken advantage of never to do it again. But here I am still doing  the same old thing - the difference being that 99.99% of Beoworlders DO appreciate this which makes it all worth while.

    Thanks Peter and Chris.

Yes with some cleaning and general TLC it looks good and plays very well. I have a 2402 with a 20EN and the sound is much brighter from the 6002. The double sided tape has indeed rotted so need to fix that. The seller sent it without securing the transport screws or protecting the stylus so it has undergone a through build quality test. Some scratching to the lid but nothing serious. very pleased with it.
