    Beomaster 2400-2 No Loudness button!

Hi I have just got a 2400-2 and the loudness switch doesnt appear to do anything. Is there anything i should check for the problem? Also should the bass,Treble and balance indicators have lamps? Apart from that it sounds fantastic.

The loudness button only influences sound at low volumes. And yes, the treble, bass and balance indictors should light up red. Dillen can supply a light and capacitor kit. A couple of pictures of the lights can be seen here.

Here is a pic of mine, with the age of your unit its recommendable to change all electrolytic caps and check and maybe change some trimmers (potis), change rectifier for 15 V circuit, there after addjust 15 V , amp R/L values and lamp balance, and do a troughout cleaning of the whole unit, I did mine with Martins cap and lamp kit, and the difference is amazing. You only think its sounding very good now Wink

Hi Soren, thanks for the great picture. I have refoamed my S50's and that has made a huge difference and have been thinking about the recap and lamp repair. Is it difficult?

I have got new caps coming from Martin for the S50 xover units and will change them, so they are completely renovated. How hard is it to get into the 2400-2?

    Regards

    Steve

    Check here,

    http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/36803.aspx

IMO the 2400 is not the easiest of the old types, but with pacience and the manuals on site, forum help and a good solder iron it doable.

Search the forum for more threads, Beomaster 2400 repair, if you like me did'nt do it before, here is one of my first

Eugene on the forum is an expert on 2400 and she and Martin helped me through my repair, I'm a mecanical tecnician without much experience in this wonderful radio/sound world. So just get on with it and read the last sequens in signature.Big Smile

no no no no I am no expert at these things. I just look first for the faults that are coomon to the BM 2400 when they get old. Usually it works out that it is one of them.

I am only aware of these things from reading dated forum posts from others who have already experienced and solved these problems in the past.

or maybe I am just a bit lucky.

Probably the only things I would consider myself at having any expertise at is taking things apart and putting them back together again without breaking them or having a bunch of extra parts, screws, washers etc left over.

I can also solder/desolder fairly well.

I,ve done the caps in the S50's sound brilliant, so i am going to get the Cap and lamp kits from Martin and do the 2400.

I will probably have some questions and need help so expect some questions.

    Kindest regards

The lamp kit comes with detailed (dis-/)assembly instructions.
If you can solder and handle other basic electronic tools, you can easily do it.

Get the manual on site, read it carefully, it has descriptions for disassamply and addjustment.

Ordering lamps and caps i recommend also ordering, D 50 Bridge rectifier (bigger is better), the 2 trimpotis R249 and R349.

Take photos before and during disassamply, the more the better, it will help if you forget how you did it.

And start looking for a electronic supplyer near you, you will need one for cleaners, solder, desolder and maybe you will find other failures where the parts can be bought locally.

Get one or 2 cups or tupperware with lid to store screws and smaller items, when you start searching your floor for screws you will know why.

For me a lot of black coffee is a must during the works, good luck and may your gods go with you. Smile

And Eugene is, if not an expert, very good in what she do, she is just a little shyWhistle
