    Speakers

I currently have connected to me Beomaster 5500 a pair of very good condition no foam rot RL60.2, am considering selling and want to get some Pentas, not the VOX but the LAB ones.

     What would you recommend.

    Re: Speakers

I'd say yes, obviously. The Pentas cannot be compared to the RL60s in any way, completely different performance leagues! Like comparing a Mini Cooper to a Lambo....

Try and get Penta MK3s though, but there were never any 'duff' Pentas which you should avoid - they were all fantastic speakers. The MK3s are obviously newer...

If you have a 5500, I would actually get Penta 1s as they will be much cheaper and you will need to use Speakerlink anyway. Make sure the cones are OK. If not bargain the price down further and buy new units. Available from B&O still.

Pentas are absolutely wonderful, you will for sure fall in love with these amazing speakers.

If you are moving them, do yourself a favor, and use gloves. Any sweaty (they are heavy) hand prints will be difficult to remove.

    A happy Penta owner.

    Re: Speakers

I recently found myself a pair of Pentas on ebay. I already had a mint pair of RL60.2 the difference between them is astounding. I have always loved the sound of the 60.2s They have never disappointed me, but I didn't expect such a difference to the Pentas. The RL are much much sharper in my opinion, and next to the Pentas sound harsh. The Pentas are much more neutral and relaxed. They grow on you. One thing I did have to do was really turn down the bass. They have a much more intense bottom end. I was hoping to use the RLs for a surround setup, but o be honest they are so different in sound I cant.

A final not about the Pentas, they were very dirty when I got them, they were in a smoky environment. I first tried cleaning them with a damp cloth, no luck. Then tried window cleaner, again no joy. I decided that I couldn't bear the way they looked and used metal car polish. 3 hours later and they nearly look as good as new. They now really do look beautiful. I managed to polish out most of the obvious light scratches, and also polished the base plastic, to remove some of the clouding. I am now on the look out for some front material to recover the frets. They will nearly look as good as new. I have my eye on another pair now, but they look allot worse than the current ones I have and may take more work.

Scratches will polish out to a degree. Dents are the real problem as they always look obvious. It is possible to replace the metal if your are feeling brave!!!

Definately go for the Penta's, they are in a different league all together from the RL 60.2's.

Peter, don't the MK 2's have both speaker link and powerlink inputs?

as a happy penta-owner I'm forced to say : choose the penta ! anyway, the penta is the far better choice even the vox version is bettersounding than the RL's.

I've traded the RL for pentavox and enjoyed them more later I traded my voxes for labs and the difference a huge !

btw. I now have a pair of P45's connected to my 5500 set in the bedroom and they sound great as well [ I think the P30/45/50 serie is a generally very under-astimated ] wallspeakers are a more practical solution in a bedroom imo.

Yes, but Mk1s are much cheaper! Same basic speaker.

Thought they did, I was just thinking in terms of likely condition and future connection to a later system reallyGeeked
