    Beolab 3 as bookshelf speaker

Can Beolab 3 be used as bookshelf speakers in a bookshelf which consists of 32.5x32.5cm cubes?

The bookshelf is in front of the listening position, so no problem with the front woofer or the tweeter. But what about the passive radiators: knowing that the speakers are 13.5cm wide, will the sound be distorted / will the bass be reduced / will the sound dispersion in the room be constrained if there is only (32.5 - 13.5) / 2 = 9.5 cm on each side?

Otherwise, I guess the best alternative would be Beolab 4000.

    Thanks.

Re: Beolab 3 as bookshelf speaker

I'd be worried about the effects of an acoustic lens in an enclosed space than the passive radiators. The BeoLab 3 fires just as much sound out to the sides as it does to the front, and high frequencies are very sensitive to nearby reflections, which 'smear' and distort the sound in quite a significant way.

I'd be interested to hear input from Peter and Soundproof, both of whom have significantly more experience with the lens than I...

I used mine is a fairly confined space and they were excellent. In a wooden alcove about 1 m across with teh speakers about 15cm from the side walls. The imaging was superb.
