    MMC3 vs. MMC4?

Managed to bagsy an MMC3 on evilbay for £45 the other day. Looking forward to listening to it on my BG80002 in place of my MMC4. I did have an MMC2 that sounded lovely but it was totalled in a courier disaster a couple of years back :(

Anyway, is the MMC3 any better sounding than an MMC4? I know the BG6002 came with the MMC3, and the 8002 usually came with the MMC2, but is there any difference??? I suppose at least it's not an MMC5!

Nice cartridge - similar to a 20EN as it has the same profile.

I have one of those on my BG4002 and it sounds nice. So is the 3 slightly better than the 4 then Peter?

Yes - it is a proper elliptical stylus - I like the 3 a lot. I had one on a 6002 and used it a fair bit. Very similar to the EN which is very easy to listen to and unfussy about conditions. Doesn't pick up as much dirt as the MMC2!

Thanks Peter - I shall look forward to listening to it when it arrives :)

Might have an MMC4 surplus to requirements now....

    Re: MMC3 vs. MMC4?

I have one and it is a definate improvement on a similar condition MMC4. I still prefer my SMMC4 though as it is a bit brighter.

I'm glad it was one of us who got that one on ebay (v good price) - I was watching it & missed the auction end due to work commitments.

My advice? Sell the MMC4 on ebay & you'll probably get enough for it to buy a new SMMC4 from sound-smith.

    Chris.

    Thanks Chris

If the MMC3 sounds better than the MMC4 then I'll keep the 3 and let the 4 go. Not keen on eBay though as have recently had my fingers severely burnt selling a Beomaster that the buyer claimed didn't work when delivered. Guess which side PayPal came down on despite a wedge of evidence that the item was functioning when shipped, insured and sold by a seller with flawless eBay feedback???

Perhaps I'll let the 4 go on here....PayPal not accepted though!

Oh dear....MMC3 arrived this morning and it had the left channel out. Currently waiting to hear if the seller will refund me without resorting to heavy-handed PayPal route. Shame, as the right channel sounded much better than my current MMC4. Anyone got a nice MMC2? There was one for sale a while back at Lifestyle I seem to recall, but is no longer there :(

Why Graham - they're not hard to pack and ship properly. It's a shame as the right channel sounds sweet :(

Come on John, they're all goosed on eBay! This same scenario has been played out on the forum loads of times over the years.

Even when I buy a complete deck on ebay, I always assume that the cartridge is goosed.........and I'm not often wrong!!

If you're not happy with you MMC4, why not send it to Axel and have him rebuild it to MMC2 specification. Super quality and price.

    Regards Graham

A shame... but, Graham is correct... we should all know better by now!

Outside of this sandbox -it is a big world! If any of us want to "step out" -we know about Sound-Smith and Axel!

With that said, I have sold a few carts to fellow BeoWorlders knowing they were fine.

P.S. Before returning... You could try Peter's tapping technique!
