    Beogram 1500

    Hello all,

I am new to this Forum so hope that this is not an inappropriate posting.

I have just acquired a Beogram 1500 because I am interested in vintage Radio items and also want to use it for my collection of Vinyl records. It does however have a problem that makes it unusable. The arm does not lower on to the record. It moves to the start position and that is all.

Looking at the mechanism there is a black sector that the adjusting screw rests on and I imagine that this should lower for the record to play. It does not move however. In fact it seems very rigid so I am reluctant to try and free it with force in case it is not designed to move and the lowering mechanism is elsewhere.

Can anyone help me please before I do any damage.?

    Many thanks

    John

Welcome to Beoworld - have a look at this thread - go to the second page and there is a picture. There is a little pin that sticks and stops the arm from dropping - this thread gives you some hints on how to fix it!

    Many thanks Peter.

Things move quickly on this Forum, I read through the thread you quoted and the information is clear and comprehensive. I found the pin concerned and will follow the instructions to free it. I am glad I asked, because if I had gone the way I first intended I might have had a major disaster.

    Thanks for all the help.

Pleased to hear it. The Beogram 1500 is a really good deck - nice and simple with a good arm. With a decent cartridge, it will take some beating.

    Re: Beogram 1500

Just to tidy things up. I took out the steel retaining clip and put some penetrating oil on the plunger. With the clip out, I could put a pin in the hole and rotate the plunger to free it. This didn't take long and now with some clock oil to lubricate it, it works a dream.

I have also a Beocenter hidden away because I made a mess of things. (It is no good reverse engineering and repairing faults at the same time). Now that I have found a fountain of knowledge I will resurrect it and try to undo my damage and then cure the original fault. I will be asking some more simple questions, because of my ignorance there may be lots of them but I am determined somehow or other to get it working. The engineering of B&O is too good to leave it hidden away in a cupboard.

    Thanks again

    John

All questions welcome though I am sure that you will soon be answering them yourself. Which cartridge do you have?

MMC 3000 for the beogram 1500 and I intend to try it with a Beomaster 900 though I have a Beocenter 4000 that I might also use. I have a puzzle with this one as I can't understand the tape . It works OK but I can't get the stop button to do anything. To stop I just turn off the whole set or  FF the tape to the end when the auto stop works.  As I have no user guide I don't know whether there is a fault or whether there is some odd function with the auto reverse or Dub  facility that I have engaged by accident. So far it is one of life's mysteries but does not stop me enjoying the set.

Just what I used.  Non acidic, unlike 3 in 1 etc.
Glad it's sorted. The picture was not mine, I robbed it off member Dillen.

Which 4000? The twin tape or the single tape?

    Re: Beogram 1500

It's the twin tape model. I have just realised that I will have problems with the Beomaster 900 as I think it will need a pre-amplifier with this cartridge but I think the 4000 might be OK.

True though a shame - the amplifier in the Beocenter 4000 is not one of the best and this machine is actually Japanese with some pretty David Lewis clothes. The 900 on the other hand is lovely!

    Re: Beogram 1500

Yes Peter it is a pity because the 900 is very impressive .

I have now persuaded myself to have another look at a Beocenter 7002 that I had stacked away because I could not make sense of the service manual. I will start another thread om this as I think it will be a bigger problem.

Now that really is a good device. A mini 8000 system is some ways!
