Upgrade to HD or trade in?

I am hoping you might be able to help: I have a 2005 Beovision 6-26. At purchase the sales person assured me it could be upgraded to HD when the module became available. Now in 2009 I would like HD, and I'm wondering if the module is now available and how much would it cost in total? Also, is it full HD (1080 p) or a lower resolution? So basically I'm weighing up the costs of upgrading (if available) vs trading in the TV for something say like a used Beovision 7-32 with HD installed, whilst considering the quality of the end product (ie if I get full HD or not). There's the dilemma. Hope you can help.

    Thanks,

    Owain (London)

    Hi Omcneill

I would think a HD module should be available as they still produce the BC 6-26 ( a new version is comming soon or are allready here??)

The new one is HD ready (720) and i dont think you can have 1080P on your BV 6-26. It does by the way not make a huge difference on such a small tv if it is 720 og 1080 so i would not worry.

Bv 7-32 is NOT full HD, only 720..

Full HD on a 26" screen is a nonsense, unless you watch it at approx. 40cm and use it as a computer display... BV/BC 6 are HD ready only.

    Hi Owain:

The HD Ready module for the BV6-26" is avalible and (in Spain) costs around 300 €. Although the screen of the BV6-26" is 1366x768, with the HD Ready module, the BV6-26" can recieve 1080p signal without problems Wink

I thought about getting this module but with installation from the dealer it was to expensive and the big drawback is that you still don't get an HDMI connection.

Also at the time I bought my BV6 B&O had an official document out stating it was HD ready. Found out when I got it it was not.

Unless you are going to watch close up the benefits of HD on a 26" TV will be pretty marginal so I would be inclined to stay as you are or upgrade the whole TV to a larger model.

Re: Upgrade to HD or trade in?

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think the overall opinion seems to be, either do nothing or change the TV. Costs are clearly high to upgrade the existing BV6-26 for marginal benefit. Now, if I do change the TV altogether I'd be looking to connect Sky HD and also a Blue-Ray player (probably from Sony), so need at least two HDMI connections. What's the best value option - second hand Beovision 7 or something else? As an aside, I'm considering ditching the whole B&O thing altogether. I'm tired of forking out huge wads of cash for something that is either already or soon to be obsolete. B&O just seem to always be behind the technology curve. Loewe, say, or the new Samsung or Sony LED TVs perhaps are a better long-term solutions - more connections, cheaper, but still have some curb appeal... Sorry, just rambling.... Thanks again, Owain

Have you looked at the BeoVision 8 - 40 - 100hz display, 2 HDMI and is full HD so fits that requirement. Also is cheaper than the new BeoVision 6 - 26.
