Which is best? Beovox C’s or Beovox Cx’s?

    Hi,

I am considering buying a pair of small speakers to improve the sound of my link installation in my bedroom…

The installation consists of a MX4002, but I think the sound is a little “thin”, when I listen to radio or CD.

I am thinking of buying a pair of passive speakers and connect them to the MX4002.

But which series is the best? The early C’s (C40/C75) or the later Cx’s (Cx50/Cx100). I think the later ones are simplified in some way to reduce production costs…

I am aware of the problem with foam rot…

Looking forward to here from you…

    Regards,

    Erik

My C40's sound significantly better than my CX50's (The CX50's have brand new cones), and they are both inferior to my CX100's

    so I would guess that C75 > CX100 > C40 > CX50

You could also consider other smaller alternatives like the Beovox 1702.

Re: Which is best? Beovox C’s or Beovox Cx’s?

I actually like the 1700/1702 better than any of the C/CX.
Maybe not as linear and all that but not as sterile in my ears, considerably more
pleasant to listen to and that's what counts for me.
No foam rot in the 1700/1702 either due to the use of rubber surrounds.
Something like Beovox 1100 also springs to mind as even better and not that
    much larger.

    Very interesting choices…

But those speakers are quiet old, and not that easy to find?

What about the Uniphase Panel P30 or P45?

    Are they worth considering?

The C range is from the 70's, as is the Beovox 1100.
    - And the P range.
None of these are really rare, they all come up for sale occasionally.

The P30 and P45 are nice speakers and both are well-sounding if wall mounted.
The harder the wall the better.
The P45, I think, is particularly good. Balanced sound, just plain pleasant
to listen to but physically quite large compared to C/CX and needs to be
wall-mounted and placed at the listerners ear-height to do their best.

If you are thinking that sort of size, get S45-2s - still quite small but much better than the C or CX range in accuracy. P45s are very good but are really quite big. Very similar in sound to S45s.

Re: Which is best? Beovox C’s or Beovox Cx’s?

I haven't owned any of the "P" series speakers so cannot comment but I have owned all of the "C" & "CX's" and many "S" series. Of the "C" & "CX" range the C70's are easily the best sounding IMO.

I couldn't agree more though with Peter that S45.2's are in a different (better) league. Much will depend on available space though as they cannot really be considered as compact speakers.

Re: Which is best? Beovox C’s or Beovox Cx’s?

Thank you all helping me with this...

I will go for a pair of C75's, which both Simon and Chris thinks are the best sounding.

The "P" series is out of question. I wasn't aware of the size, and they must be compact speakers.

I have got an offer from Dillen if the speakers needs a refoam, what they probably do...

Surprisingly, a lot of Beovox C75 are still fine but check and make sure
the price is set according to the actual condition.

Re: Which is best? Beovox C’s or Beovox Cx’s?

I've often found that the upper 2 drivers need refoaming with the lower 2 being OK - mainly on the early versions (type 6321) which had different type drivers to the later (type 6323) ones.
