I have a bit of a problem any help would be appreciated.The sound ring on the 5500 control panel is not working, could the problem be with the contacts and if so can they be cleaned without too much difficulty??

Generally, if the MCP lights up when you rotate the wheel, the contact is fine and the opto is dead
but the contacts are easily checked with an ohm-meter (MCP batteries removed) and also easily
cleaned. If the contacts are OK, the opto component is probably bad.
Light output degrades with age, I've replaced a handful or so by now.
