Bought Beolab 5 and Beosound 9000

We spent all day getting them home yesterday.

Can I just say I love women right now. The wife of the man we bought the speakers from said she didn't like the speakers and made him sell them. In addition he threw in the BS 9000, we got a really good deal :-)

We are enjoying the set up process.  I will post pics soon of the new living room. These speakers are really cool.

So ... I am poor for the next few months.... but have more reason to stay home :-)

Remember to connect the S/PDIF to both speakers (daisy-chain).

Here are the speakers they replaced. There is so much more room here now.

Now I need to get rid of the old speakers.... but I have no idea who would want to buy them.

and here is the BV8-32 I wouldn't have bought if I knew I was about to buy these speakers......

I guess though the quality of the TV was what convinced Andy to go with the Beolab 5's anyway. Nice way to get in the door :-)

Congrats! I believe you'll be spending the rest of the day enjoying your CDs all over again. Big Smile

Do experiment with moving the speakers out from the back wall a bit - listen for whether it makes for a tighter bass response. If not, just leave them there, but I suspect you might hear a better bass definition if they're not up against the wall as in the photo.

    Cheers!

Agreed - while the BeoLab 5s do allow greater flexibility of placement than other large speakers due to the ABC, they still sound better when placed correctly!

I've just pulled my B&W standmounts out an extra 4" from the wall, and the difference it's made is phenomenal!

    Congratulations Luke!

Now you can enjoy your CD-collection with a fantastic cd-player. I put mine in random and just lay down and enjoy both the look and the sound.

And I guess that when the sound from your BL5 you cant be anything but happy:-)

    Nice room you have.

Re: Bought Beolab 5 and Beosound 9000

Thanks everyone... I will have a go at moving them out a bit more.....

does anyone know how it knows which is left and which is right?

I hope we got it the right way around or is that automated somehow?

There's a little switch inside the cable compartment - you set it for L or R, have to set it on both.

    Where it says

    RIGHT
    LEFT

Just to the right of that, you'll see the little switch.

I know I keep harping on the placement being important, but think of them as musical instruments. Where would you place a cellist who was to perform in your room? Big Smile

I'm wondering if I have my BL5s connected correctly as I did this myself. S/PDIF daisy chained? I have powerlink cables coming out of the BC2, as well as a digital cable connected to one BL5. The other BL5 is daisy chained with a powerlink cable?

Luke - your place looks good!

Ooooh, Moxxey. You need to have one digital cable going to one speaker, from your audiomaster or other source, and then another digital cable going from that speaker to the next. Connect the first digital cable to the DIGITAL IN on the first speaker, and the other cable to the OUT on that speaker, and then of course to the IN on the other speaker.

You may have been listening to a digital signal on one speaker, and the PL signal on the other ... if I understand you right.

You picture makes me want them. Good for you and enjoy them.

BTW where are you in Switzerland? Did you have to travel far to get the gear, I see very few ads for quality used B&O gear ( I'm living close by Geneva)

I stand corrected - I just checked. I have both a digital lead and powerlink lead from one BL5 to the other (from OUT to IN). So, is that right?

Love the setup and your house Luke, you're a lucky fella! I dream of BL5's, out of my range for a long time yet! Can I ask, what make and model is your sofa, it looks really well in your room.

Hey Robert, thanks. The couch is B & B Italia. The name is called 'Andy' It comes in different sizes and all the back rests are adjustable and the bottom parts also extend out so you can lay on it more.

It comes with many different options for layout. We're really happy with it... we watch a lot more movies now we have this.

One of these connection modes will do it.

Most dealers do have a pair if the shop is big enough.

WHAT A GREAT SPACE for B&O. The BL5's look like they were meant to be there all along, lucky you! :)
