BL 2 will stay on - the new sub is a smaller one, both when it comes to performance and price. Perhaps not a budget product, but close to half the price of the BL 2 according to our sources.

So Roger, could you elaborate a bit on the "half performance" - and I mean a bit more serious than smiles Whistle

    Roger,

If your sources are right, then Beo is making something completely wrong... Again!

I mean, the BL2 isn't that good, and making something smaller sound wise and less performing?

    Oh dear...

To what use? Connected to ones computer?

i don't know... but i like the idea! i think that the bl2 is a bit pricey and may not suit my avant room well. i think that a lesser sub (hopefully w/ better music response) would put me in line to buy one!

Jeff, the faster and punchier the sub, the more expensive it is to make.

Beo is not going to be able to build a better sub for half price...

For example the best sub I've ever heard is the ELAC 2080. It costs 3378 euros. It has ICE power and and digital crossovers.

PDF file: You can trust it! http://scanteknik.fi/userfiles/documents/elac/Subwoofer/sub2080D.pdf

It seems to be very difficult to make a good subwoofer. Subwoofers with a lot of sound and boomy bass is easy, they simply don't go deep enough.

Beo should make something on par with the Bass in the Beolab 5's. Fast, deep and responsive.

Small drivers won't cut it, since they can't go deep enough at a reasonable sound pressure.

i remember reading that this might be a dual throw sub, lending itself to quicker response than the bl2?

I've heard that too, the ELAC I linked to is also in a push-pull configuration.

A "musical" sub is indeed expensive and difficult to make.

Never having shopped for a subwoofer my initial thoughts are that a servo based system would make sense, whereby the position of the cone is controlled rather than driven open loop. Does anyone know how many top flight subs are servo based and the pros/cons of said implementation?

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.
