Beocord 9000: right reel hub vibrating slightly on start?

    Hello,

The right reel hub on my Beocord 9000 hums/vibrates a bit when playing from the beginning of a tape. If you put your finger on it, the hum quiets down. Has anyone had the same problem? If possible, a solution to this humming?

Welcome to Beoworld !  Yes - thumbs up

It can hum, screech and vibrate in many different ways and most often when winding/rewinding.
Common fault is dried lubricants in the tape reels where they sit on each their steel pin.

Getting in there is not for the faint-hearted. There are different ways in including several springs,
brakes, screws and brackets but it can be done.
Cleaning and adding fresh silicone grease will normally cure it.
In rare cases, when operated for a long time with the fault, a tape reel (plastic) can be worn
    enough to require replacement.

    Thank you for the advice,

I'll try to locate some suitable silicone grease and apply it to the tape reels. Can you recommend a particular brand of grease?

By the way, can the oil damper on lid/cover be adjusted? Mine seems to jump up without being dampened.

    Hi

The lid damper doesn't have any adjustment, it probably needs to be taken apart and given another shot of high viscosity grease.  This usually dries up after a long period of time.  Just be very careful when taking apart the plastic parts as they all can break very easily.

I'm sure you will find the damper have emptied its contents out into the machine. It's not a disaster, normally you can just leave it there, but it will do so again if you refill it. A new type of dampers, better sealed, were available once but that was long ago, I'm afraid.

Well, I've fixed the reel hub vibration. Adding a little grease instead of a drop of oil did the trick  :-)

Regarding the damper, I guess that I'll just simply leave it alone.
