    Beosound 9000: Discs Don't Spin

I haven't used my CD player in quite some time up until three weeks ago when I played music all afternoon.  Today when I tried to play CDs it looked like business as usual where the carriage moved to the corresponding disc, but the CD would not spin.  It looked like it was going to but just barely spun 1/4 of the way around.

Does anyone have any idea what might be happening?  I tried calling B&O customer service but there are no operators available on the weekends.

     HELP!!!!

That could be just dust ...  try cleaning it a bit, especially the sensors that detect the CD.

    Cheers

    eduard:

The sensors; Are the little plastic thing that are on the right side on the aluminium plate, near the CD. So one on top and one below!

Well, that depends on how you´ve mounted the BeoSound! Right, Ed?

I am also having the same problem as the original poster.  The CD's don't spin.  Sometimes it tries to spin but only gets about 15 degrees around at most.  I've had occasions when the CD's spin a few revolutions and then stop, but in those cases it was caused by dirty or scratched CD's.  Now it just doesn't spin at all (or 15 degrees at the most).  I already tried cleaning the glass and the optical sensors and it still doesn't work, but as I understand it if those sensors were dirty they would slow down or stop the carriage movement, however, in this case the carriage moves at normal speed, but once it picks up the CD it does not spin it.  I even unplugged the power cord for a couple of hours to see if it will reset (I've had other problems where this has helped), but in this case it made no difference.  So are there any other suggestions that could fix this problem?

You may have a bad CD mech.  It is not reading the start up track.  Check the forum for test mode setup and run #27.  It will show if you have a bad CD mech.

The first thing the 9000 tries to do is focus the laser.  If it can't get focus it won't start.

Try cleaning the lens with a Q-tip and denatured alcohol.  If that dosen't do it you probably need a CD mech.

Search the forum for BeoSound 9000 test mode.

TM 65 runs the light pen all the way out so you can get to it.

Remember that you also have to set the two screws at the back of the player accordingly to your mounting position of the player. If the screws are wrong, it will not spin. As the discs are touching the mechanism.
