    Beosound 4000

    Hi:

What is the difference between the Beosound 4000 vs the Beocenter 2500?

Neither beocentral or beoworld has description for this unit.

    Thanks,

    Re: Beosound 4000

    Derek,

Other than the fact that the Beocentre 2500 has speakers, only a few small differences such as:-

    • The Beosound 4000 was apparently only sold in North (110 volts)  & South America (220 Volts) so the FM radio frequency coverage is a little different.
    • The Beosound 4000 has Masterlink, but the Beocentre 2500 has an AUX socket (MCL) Master Link Control

The CD & tape are the same, but the big issue for anyone in Europe purchasing a Beosound 4000 is if it is a North American version, then you would need to convert the power or have a transformer. If the FM radio is important, then the frequency range is different.

    Regards Keith....

    Keith:

    Thank you for your reply.

    Some additional questions:

Does BS 4000 have 2 way remote?

How will the FM radio differ? My 9500 system solves the NA/Europe FM range problem by having a .1 mHz frequency step resolution and this is compatible world wide.

Does the BS 4000 have the smaller or larger disc clamper?

Is there a preferred model (for technical/stylish reasons)? I kind of favor the 2500 because of the radial mechanism (I think it looks cooler) and also the authenticity of the design.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Beosound 4000

The BS4000 is the American version of the Ouverture and was a change in name only. Only made with small clampers.

Some early Ouvertures were made with radial cd mechs but I would go for a later linear cd model as sooner rather than later the radial deck will fail and the replacement is the linear version.

I know that 4000 radios work OK in the UK because I have done a few voltage conversions. Whether the reverse is true I don't know for sure.

    Re: Beosound 4000

    Hi Graham:

Isn't it strange that the radial mechanisms had such longevity on the CDX and 9500 series but fails on the Beosounds? Any idea why that is?

The Beocenter 2500 was sold in North America. Why the name change to "Overture?"

What is the Freqency resolution on the 4000? is it 0.1 or 0.2 mHz interval?

    Thanks,

    Re: Beosound 4000

I have always assumed it is 0.1 but I cannot find proof of that other than many UK FM stations have odd numbers for frequency!

    Re: Beosound 4000

    Hi Graham:

In the USA, FM channels are offset by .2 mHz .1,.3,.5,.7,.9 etc... Many receivers designed for the US market won't work in Asia for example because they have a .2 mHz resolution and Asian channels are .0,.2,.4 etc... I'm not sure how things work in Europe.

I can say that I have converted a couple of US 4000's to 220v and the radios worked fine in the UK???
