Hiss from BM4500 - what might be the problem?

    Hi Smile

My parents complains about a hiss from their Beomaster 4500. Their complete setup is the following: Beomaster, Beogram, Beogram CD 4500 connected to BeoLab 8000 (Main speakers) and Beovox CX100, RedLines through MCL.

The hiss or buzz comes in various intervals and last under a second. It can be head from all the speakers, so I suspect the Beomaster to have some sort of short circuit.

Do any of you have a possible explanation, or better a possible solution?

    Best regards

Christian (on behalf of my dad...)

Does this occur when eg changing volume? Then it could be the powerlink cables that arent sheilded enough. Data transfer can disturb audio signal.

It occurs randomly, and it is not related to changing volume, radio station etc.

    (Sorry for answering so late...)

Do anyone have a clue to what might be causing the buzz/hiss?

It seems to me like a leaky capacitor mostly in the volume changing/switching circuitry.

If the system is quite old then I would try resoldering all the joints in the above mentioned board first just to get rid of the chances of any dry solder issues.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

I will try to have a look at the service manual then, and see if I can locate the volume circuitry.

    Thanks!
