    Beolab 9 and subwoofer

When setting an Avant to Beolab 5 with Beolab 9s connected the bass is tremendous if subwoofer is set to off on the Avant. Turning it on at the Avant, but then physically unplugging the power from the sub results in no bass from the 9s. Obviously when the sub is plugged back in, the bass is back but just from the sub. Is there a way to get full range from the 9s in a surround sound setup and get bass for the lowest frequencies from a sub?  Thanks!

    Hi

Maybe you can do it by connecting the BL2 to the back of the BL9... BL9 to BL2 I think this is the only way to do it. maybe when the new SW comes it going to be more like BV7!!!

Yes, as TheStig says, connect the BeoLab 2 to a 'daisy-chain' connection on the back of either BeoLab 9. The only disadvantage is that you can't control the volume of the subwoofer as well, although this can be worked around with placement of the sub and manipulating the controls on the back.

    Re: Beolab 9 and subwoofer

Are you playing a CD or watching a DTS movie? The way the signal is processed is different.

We are using it for both CDs and DTS etc watching movies.  One question, there was a mention here of a possible software update to be similiar to a Beovision 7. Does the new Beosystem 3 based Beovision 7 allow us to do it?

    Re: Beolab 9 and subwoofer

Not sure yet.  We will have to wait and see on the BV7. I would like to see rather than just on/off and volume some sort of slider to bring in the Sub at lower and controlled frequencies.

Can you give us a little more idea of how your system is setup. Do you have a DVD1, BC2, BS9000?

One powerlink Y-Cable in the Avant will solve the problem!

This is exactly the same as connecting the BeoLab 2 to a daisy-chain output on either BeoLab 9, except results in a higher cost.

Sorry, how do I use the powerlink Y ?  Do I connect it to one of the front speakers "out" on the Avant and the connect the sub and one Beolab 9 to it?

If you put the powerlink Y-cable in left or right output socket on your Avant. Then connect one Bl 9 to the Y-cable and then BL2 to the other Y-connector. then plug in the other BL9 as usually in the "right" output socket on your Avant.

Regarding connecting the sub "daisy chain" style to the 9, I take it you mean power link from Avant to one of the power link sockets on the 9 and then connect the sub into the other powerlink on the 9?  We are using a Velodyne, not Beolab 2 but it should still work, shouldn't it?

Perhaps even better as the Velodyne has adjustments on it including volume?

    Re: Beolab 9 and subwoofer

On my Avant I can control the Sub levels:-

    MENU>SETUP>SOUND>ADJUSTMENT - SUBWOOFER (-10 to +10)

    and speaker

    MENU>SETUP>SOUND>ADJUSTMENT - BASS (-10 to +10)

    Re: Beolab 9 and subwoofer

Yes, I can too if the sub is connected to the sub out on the Avant. However, doing that sends all of the Bass to the sub and none to the Beolab 9s. I want to keep the Bass going to the 9s as their bass is superior to the subs, except for the very lowest frequencies which the 9 can not reach.

By the way, do you have decided to get the new Beovision 7 or you will continue to use your Avant ?

     Best regards,

    We have a Velodyne HGS-12.

We do still want a Beovision 7 but will continue to use the Avant for now. Too expensive to do the Beovision 7 right after a pair of Beolab 9s, even with the great deal we got on the 9s.

    Re: Beolab 9 and subwoofer

If I connect the sub as suggested in here, will I get full bass?  i.e. does the Avant send 100% of the bass signal to the front speakers?

I assume it does when set to Beolab 5 as there is no need for a sub with 5s.

I also assume full bass goes to both speakers, left and right, as the switch on the speaker determines left or right so there is nothing lost in taking the bass from one speaker, left or right?
