    Re: going retro

IMO it would have to be either a Beosystem 7000 or Beocenter 9500. Both two way aswell so even better with a when controlled by a Beolink 7000.

    Those are both 90s.

    Late 70s/ early 80s

    1. Beomaster 4400 and Beogram 4002 with Beovox M100s. The best sounding.

    2.  Beomaster 2400-2, Beogram 4004 and Beovox S75s - the best looking.

    3. Beocenter 7000/7002/7007/7700 and Beovox S120s - best value.

No, not that many CD players were made in the 70s Laughing

Hide one somewhere farther away out of sight. Or you could even try one of those small power FM transmitters that are now popular for getting a mp3 player to play through the car stereo. The sound will be crappy with this solution, though...

    Re: going retro

Well there aren't any Cd players from that era obviuosly but you can still connect a cd player to those systems.

    Re: going retro

If you  read the latest "My B&O" you'll know why Peter gave you those selections Stick out tongue

Personally I'd recommend one of the 3000 or 4000 beomasters from the 70's.  Every collector needs at least one of those old beomasters with the slide rules and flip switches!

I love Beocenters 7XXX series, if you need to use a cd player too think about a beocenter 7700.

Actually I'm using a Beo 7700 with a Beogram CD 3300, best setup in my opinion (Actually I live in year 1983 ) Party!!!

    PS

If you need help in Beo 7xxx I'm here Wink

My 'audiophile' system at present is:

Beomaster 4400, Beogram 4000, Beogram CDX and Beocord 5000 (the 70s one). I actually use non B&O speakers with this set up though I would use my M100s but they would dominate the room too much! The CDX has a nice warm analogue sound and works perfectly with the 4400.

I am however going to be replacing this set up fairly soon! Beolab 5000, Beomaster 5000, Beogram 3000 Thorens! Simply the best made B&O available.

    Very interesting post indeed.

I tought the Beogram 4000 is the best turntable ever build by BnO, isn't it? Hmm (you actually own it!).

Try a Beomaster 8000 (80s), Beogram CDX (80s), a pair of Beovox Pentas (80s), and a Beogram record deck of your choice (I have a 4002 (70s) with the three items just listed). An eclectic mix for sure, but one that won't disappoint in terms of looks and performance.

The best sounding Beogram would probably be the 3000 Thorens. It is a Thorens TD124 Mk2 with a B&O arm. The bass extension is far greater than the normal Beograms.  I love my 4000 which is much prettier and still sounds wonderful, but the 3000 sounds better! Quite rare though!

I am running Option 1 but with the S75 and Option 2 with s45-2.  I still can't believe how great they look and how well they sound.  My kids will be fighting for them when I am gone!!

    hmmm...

well, i too am running a bit of a mix of these out of my "grab bag" -i have other combos of some of the above, but these are some of my faves relative to peter's op.

    let's see...

    1.) bm 4400 / bc 2200 / bg 4002 / mc 120.2

    2.) bm 2400-2 / bg 4004 / s 45-2

    3.) bc 7000 / s 55

at the end of the day... similar -and some of my very favorites!!!

the 4400 and i thk the "flat front" 4000 are some of the finest pieces b&o ever made. magnificent sound.

I am running something close to Peter's option 3 with a Beocenter 7000 and a pair of S45-2's instead of the S120s.

Unbeatable VFM and you can plug a CD into the 'Tape In' DIN socket. I currently have a fairly conventional Sony CD player but hope to add a CDX when I see one at the right price.

What do you mean with analogue sound Peter. Meaning its warmer then recent cd players ? I thought it had to do with the early mastering ? Although I still think cd`s from old lp`s sound not as good as the LP

Secondly glad to hear you agree that beomaster 2400-2 is the best looking. curious to what your choice would be in the range BM 1900 up to BM 4500 ?

    Re: going retro

The CDX uses 14 bit 4X oversampling so I guess some of the warm sound will be distortion! I like it though! I took one in and auditioned it against some £1000 CD players and it was not disgraced!

I like the 2400 more than any on the other similar models. I like the display and the uncluttered touch area. The 4500 is too shiny and the 3500 too dull. The 3300 is a grey colour with yellow green illumination which I don't like, the 2000 and 3000 have the odd looking block volume  display and one of them loses the numbers for the radio display. The 1900 has the dimples which makes the design lose some of its magic and the 2300 the same. The 2400-2 volume display is for me better than the original 2400.

    Re: going retro

For the true retro look, i hope that you've decorated accordingly?

My living room is a maroon carpet, "Cocoa Blush" walls (a light brown from the Dulux range), black shelves and a BS 5500.  I run a projector onto a white 80" rectangle I painted on the wall.  It really is a proper late 70s or early 80s bachelor pad
