A new type of digital CAT-5 masterlink coming up in 2008

I have heard from a source that B&o have produced a new digital "masterlink" port with the use of CAT-5 cabling..

So you can send all the video and audio signals in 1080p and 7.1 in one thinner cable than the old analogue masterlink (composite and stereo signals only)..

It´s sounds good to me, but it also means that i and every one else have to buy a new highly expensive system that is compatible with this new Digital-Link system to get benefit of it Storm

Why can´t they use the HDMI as masterlink instead? Why most B&o always go by their own and take the long way around instead of the shortest way troug..??

And i think most likely the new Beosound 5 and other new products that coming up in 2008- will be equipped with this new Digital-Link port.

HDMI has very serious distance issues.  Anything over 30' is subject to big quality problems.  Gefen and other companies are now making HDMI to cat5 converters to run up to 300' or more.  Gefen is also making an HDMI to RG6 Coax converer.  Many places are wired for Cat 5 and coax now and the cable is cheap compared with the cost of masterlink cable.

Yes but B&o have in Sweden the HDMI provider Kramer Electronics of Sweden.. They have fiber optical HDMI cables and support 1080p up to 328´ F0T / 100 Meter´s...

    Read more here : http://www.kramersweden.com/cables/item.asp?desc=81

So it shouldn't be a problem..  Just the price tag is a small issue ..;)

I'm impressed - they obviously read my earlier postLaughing

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.
