Beovision8 Tuning Problem - Advice Please

My Beovision8 television, which is only a few months old, will not tune into Channel 10 (ITV3).  It's not a channel I use very much, but I have followed the instructions for Auto Tuning a couple of times, and in each case the unit tunes into every Freeview channel except Channel 10.  It has a direct link to the aerial, and there is a spur on the same aerial connection to an adjacent DVD recorder (Panasonic).  This recorder tunes into Channel 10 OK as does every other TV and Video in the house (four - all Sony).

Does anyone know whether this is a known fault with the Beovision8 unit or can give me some advice on how to resolve it?  In the meantime, whenever I have occasion to watch this channel, I look at it via the Video link.

At this stage I am reluctant to contact B&O technical support direct as my experience with them so far on another issue has been generally unsatisfactory.

Hope you can help and thanks in advance

    Hi Jimmcc09

    Which region are you in?

My next door neighbour has an old Samsung CRT with built in Freeview. She has the same problem, no ITV3 reception. However she also has an standalone Freeview box that does pick up ITV3. I suspect that it has more to do with local transmission issues rather than BeoVision 8 itself.

We live in the Granada region which has recently lost all analogue channels and now only get digital terrestrial.

    Jimmcc09,

Are you able to view the other services on the same Freeview Multiplex as ITV3? Try Virgin1 on 20, Fiver on 30, and Five USA on 31. If you are receiving these ok then you should also be receiving ITV3 on 10. If you are not receiving any, then the Beovision 8 is not recognising the Freeview Multiplex carrying these services, which may be due to signal strength issues.

    Thanks Opman and Neil.

I am in central Scotland with good signal strength.  My Beovision8 unit carries all Freeview channels including 20, 30 and 31 but not channel 10.  The Panasonic DVD recorder on the same aerial link carries channel 10 OK.

I'm just very suspicious of this B&O set.  So far I have not really been impressed by them.  I would love to know what could explain this situation from some of you experts out there or is it yet another turkey I have bought.

    Regards

Re: Beovision8 Tuning Problem - Advice Please

    jimmcc09,

I'm certainly no expert, but I have had to deal with several Freeview STB tuning problems following Digital Switchover.

Have you ever received ITV3? This was one of the services moved to MuxA/SDN at the national re-tune date 30/09/09. Some STB's need the old information to be erased, usually with a factory reset, before retuning, otherwise only completely "new" services are stored. If this is the case, you will be able to see channel 10 in the epg, and on the screen banner, but will not have a picture.

Another problem is that now that Freeview is full of rubbish channels, some STB's can not store all the services because they have reached their limit. The cure for this is to tune each Mux manually, deleting all the unwanted "dross" channels as you go. ( This is unlikely to be your problem as it the last scanned channels that are missed, and MuxA/SDN is in the "middle" from Black Hill which I assume is your transmitter.

I do not have any information as to how the tuning of the Beovision 8 Freeview Module works. It may well need a software update. A word with a dealer might be your best bet.

    Regards,

    Neil.
