Hi Guys,

can anyone share his / her experience in using the above cartridges (ie MMC4 vs. SMMC4)

Also: Which pre-amplifier works best with the MMC4 ?

I am operating a Beogram 5005 with the MMC4 and would like to upgrade.

Anyhow: Has anybody experience to share playing "audiophile" LPs  (eg MFSL) on these systems?

The SMMC4 is far superior to the B&O MMC4, in fact it is better than the MMC3 IMO. Not as refined in the manufacturing though but I can easily live with that.

Thanks!  What type of pre-amplifier would you recommend?  I am using just a standard no name Japanese on my MMC4. Do they make a big difference on whatever cartridge? Or must I use a far more sophisticated on the MMC4 (or SMMC4)?

Very impressed with my SMMC20EN which outperforms my 20CLs on the whole. I do have some MFSL LPs and they play very well with these cartridges. Very quiet surface which the Soundsmith cartridges seem to help. Most RIAA amplifiers are fine - I use the built in ones in the Beomaster or Beogram though Gram Slee makes very well reviewed ones. Don't go crazy though!
