Bang & Olufsen: Asleep at the wheel?

I hate to join the chorus of detractors, but I have to say that I saw something yesterday that really drove home how behind Bang & Olufsen are when it comes to innovation:

When I think that David Lewis has never thought of anything even close to this, I'm filled with concern for my beloved company. How will we compete in an increasingly competitive and innovative environment when even obvious advancements like this one escape us!? When I look at the BeoSound 3 now, it almost makes me feel ill. What a wasted opportunity. What squandered promise!

I don't know if Bang & Olufsen can ever recapture the magic.

There is scarcely anything in this world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey. - John Ruskin

Fortunately I saw this too. Better still, my local Electronics Superstore said that so long as I was willing to pay the full asking price for Mr Clock Radio they would take my BeoSound 3 off my hands as part of the deal. I'm on my way now.... I'm looking forward to the matching television too.

I think Trip's concern here, while overwrought, might be genuine....

On the other hand, Mr. Robot Clock seems to lacke a certain B&O touch.  While I will grant that it certainly offers the 'mechanical magic' which B&O feels is one of it's 'core identifiers', and certainly bears a bit of the JJ touch, I think it is too over-the-top.  Therefore it misses out on another of B&O's 'identifiers', essentiality.  In other word, much like the concept for the BV-8, the question is 'What must it do, and what might it properly do without?'  Herewith a more DL-like solution:
