    non b&o sub

Does anyone have any experience running a non b&o sub in a surround sound set up ? I have read a few things on the forum but cant really get to grips with it.

How would it be connected? with a powerlink -2 phono cable? do they require a voltage to turn them on or would they be permenently switched on?

    Thanks in advance

We have a Velodyne sub. We have it connected with an adaptor cable from powerlink to what I believe is a 2 phono cable. It has a switch on it for Auto/On. We have it set to Auto.

I used to have a similar set-up to Razlaw. Prior to getting the BL 9's, I sometimes connected a Velodyne HGS-10 to the BV 8 with a Powerlink-stereo RCA adaptor cable. One problem with this setup was that the BV 8 detected the connection and, when I tried to play audio through the Masterlinked BeoSound Ouverture, it switched off the internal BV 8 speakers. Movies through an HDMI-connected PS3 were fine though. In the end I only connected the sub when about to watch a movie.

If you have a separate pair of front B&O speakers, there wouldn't be any problem.

I had a KEF subwoofer, and you connect it as said before in this thread. The KEF turned automatically on and off, and it worked great, I must say. After getting my BL5 I didn´t need it anymore, but I regret selling it much too cheap.

I use a KEF HTB2.  It's connected with a PL-->rca cable.  Turns on and off automatically.  Works like a champ.

    Re: non b&o sub

    Hi everyone,

Yes, virtually any active sub can be run from a Powerlink output using a Powerlink to RCA cable.  If you have a choice of Line In and "LFE" inputs on the sub, just use the Line in, as the LFE inputs usually bypass the sub's internal crossover (this is a bad thing, as the Powerlink outputs on most B&O systems are full frequency-range outputs).

Some subs have one input, some have two, just use one or two of the RCA plugs on the cable according to how many sockets you have.  Adjust the sub's volume control according to your preference.

    Simples! Cool

I have to confess that i use a non-B&O sub in my surround setup. The cable that Steve provided me is just perfect! So go for it...!

You can also get the cable straight from any B&O dealer, it is the phono to Powerlink cable sold for the new ICE powered BeoLabs such as BL3/9/4000 when using them with non B&O products. Works both ways, I use it with my B&W sub.
