BG 1202 runs slow, lubrication softening over time?

My recently acquired BG 1202 runs slow. 1 min and 9 sec to perform 33 revolves. Also, it takes a minute before it starts spinning. After scanning this forum I suspect that it has to do with the motor and the lubrication.

My question is: Might the speed increase over time if I let it run for some hours, e.g. will the old lubrication soften. I tried this yesterday and after 2 hours the speed had increased from 1 min and 19 sec to 1 min and 9 sec to perform 33 revolves. But, after another 2 hours the speed vas still 1 min and 9 sec. The fine speed adjustment knob is set all the way to the right. If I force the fine speed adjustment knob a bit further the speed increases. However, the knob does not stay in this forced position.

Joking apart, it could be a stretched belt or, as you suggest hardened lubrication. I think the former, as it taks a while for it to get going.
Don't like the sound of forcing anything, I'd hate you to break something.
To lift the platter off, just push down at the front, and the back will lift enough to get hold of ot, the belt will be visible then.
