    Beocom 6000 problems

Today my parents two beocom 6000s started acting strange. They look perfectly normal, but when a call is coming in, they both look like this:
Hmm, for some reason the picture won't work, but look here: http://toubro.dk/e107_plugins/autogallery/Gallery/DSCN2505.JPG

There was a powershortage, (I don't know what it's called but the power dissappeared for fifteen minutes yesterday), I don't know if that can make any problems, but I figure the base is the problem as it's both phones. I've tried unplugging it, without result.

Do you have any suggestions as to what's wrong??

    Re: Beocom 6000 problems

Sounds strange, now the picture and link works here, and it should be viewable for everyone.

If it still won't work, I'll try and explain. The display is just blank and backlit, and when the ringing tone sounds all the of the displaydots turn black, and then turns back to being blank and backlit, it looks really strange.

    Thanks for your help.

    Sounds odd, that.
Can you get the menu or any text up at all?
If so, try removing the handsets then re-registering them.
If not, try removing the batteries, unpluging the base then start from scratch.

    Re: Beocom 6000 problems

I've seen this once with my Beocom 6000 with our electricity ( 230V ) going out.

You might take the battery out of the phone for 10-20 minutes and then reset it inside again. Your previous stored data will have been lost inside, which hopefully you can reinstall.

Interestingly enough, our gold Beocom 2 had sustained no data loss problem: Only the Becom 6000. As a result of this experience in 2004, both phones are now on surge protectors, including the phone lines. Both units purchased a in 2003  from the store in Frankfurt Am Main.

Do you recall if the power mains in your house came back up slowly, or all at once ?

Stupid website, it should be possible, oh well, maybe this works, but I won't guarantee it :o)

The display works fine, except on incoming calls, that's what's so weird. Everything is fine, the menu, phonebook you name it.

I've tried  disconnecting the battery one of the phones, (as I only thought it was that phone to begin with), but that didn't change anything, but it was only unplugged for half a minute or so, so I'll try and disconnect it for longer.

The base has also been disconnected without success, but only for a minute.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Re: Beocom 6000 problems

This is a really strange problem statement with your two Beocom 6000's

Firstly, whilst a "brown out" or power failure could cause problems with the base, I fail to see how such failure would effect two Beocom 6000 handsets in exactly the same way. Also if the Base was at fault, it still has no way of effecting the display in the manner you have described. In fact if you had no base at all the display would still function.

I am assuming that both Beocom 6000 handsets have exactly the same problem. Please confirm ?

Which version of Beocom 6000's do you have ? Mark I has a DOT to the left of the dial and Mark II has INT

Brownout Definition: A reduction in the mains voltage without a complete loss of power. A brownout is a steady lower voltage state. An example of a brownout happens during peak electrical demands in the summer, when utilities can't always meet the requirements and must lower the voltage to limit maximum power. When this happens, computer systems can experience data corruption, data loss and premature hardware failure and Video and audio systems can have variable symptoms including speaker noise, shutdown/restart and switch off.

    Regards Keith....

    Re: Beocom 6000 problems

Ehm, I just found out that my dad has actually cancelled the caller-id service, and because my parents have had caller-id all the time they have had the 6000's I have never seen an incoming call without the service. So is this just the way it look when it rings without caller-id??

Keith, thank you very much for your explanation. Both phones have the DOT, and are not compatible with the headset, and yes it is exactly the same problem, but the display is fine at everything else than incoming calls. So maybe it is just the way it is supposed to look when no caller-id is available Embarrassed

Well, you have brought a new variable into your problem statement "Caller ID"

Now we fully understand the situation, I can confirm that on Mark I Beocom 6000's they will briefly flash the blank display if you do not have the caller ID service enabled.

    Regards Keith....

Wow. You learn a new thing every day!
Lack of 'Caller ID' is a great shame with such a wonderful 'phone.

Haha, I thought something was wrong and made a big thing out of it, and then it turns out it is just because of the lack of caller-ID.

Thank you very much for your help, I'll try to ask if my father has changed anything the next time they have a beo problem :o)
