    Removing Beocord tape reels

    Hi everyone

I have stripped down the tape decks on the BC9000 series but cannot remove the plastic reels.  Both of these in the picture are very sticky and need a proper clean and service.  I have tried to prise off the plastic cover on the top but so far, I only look like destroying the thing.  Can anybody advise me of the correct way to remove the reels without damaging anything.

    Thanks for your help

    Geoff

The top must come off first, that's correct.
I like to insert two thin flat objects (while still in the Beocord so you will only have to use three hands),
and then lever it off. Alternatively, use a small electronics sized cutter and bite just below the plastic top.
The plastic tops are quite flexible and will take a lot of abuse without breaking.

Remember to get the little brake pawls on the correct side of the reel table flanges
when you put it back in the Beocord.

    Thanks Martin

Once you know what you are up against, everything is easy, isn't it.  Following your instructions, I simply put the assembly in the vice and used two small penknives to prise both sides upwards at the same time.  There is no visual damage to the caps so I can now go ahead and clean everything properly.  Thanks again for your help.

    Best Regards

    Geoff
