    Hello and welcome to Beoworld!

The Beocenter 2000 is not sought after by collectors as it was made in Japan with only the turntable being Danish, but it can look quite smart on it's stand and the S30's are decent speakers.

If everything is in good condition you are looking at maybe £30-50 if sold on eBay.

    Thanks for your reply Simon

I'm kind of torn between what to do - I've read up about the 2000 and the Japanese influence does bother me a lot but as you say it does look great as a furniture piece.

Having said that the valuation you have given against the sale price of the one I have seen differs enormously! He is asking £195! This includes the stand, speakers, cables, and original instruction manuals but in my mind that seems an awful lot of money for something made in Japan and not Denmark!

Here is the advert for it http://www.gumtree.com/london/56/35743856.html

    Interested to hear your thoughts!

    Thanks again

    Hi James.

I'm sorry, but I'm with Simon on this.
Although the GumTree ad looks great, and the 2000 looks beautiful on it's stand, I think it is grossly overpriced.
If the seller put it on eBay, I think he would be lucky to get £70.
Having said that, any item is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.
I bouught one of these without the stand, but with cartridge last May for £2.99!
If you have £195 available, you could do a lot better, in my opinion.

    Thanks Andy

Good advice there I think....I probably wouldn't mind spending slightly more..upto £100 maybe because he has serviced it and replaced the drive belts etc but certainly no more.

What would you suggest for £195..?

    Cheers

Why not bid on this instead......

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/B-O-beocenter-2002-beovox-S30-speakers-and-stands_W0QQitemZ270360094515QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioVisualElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_CompleteHifiSystems?hash=item270360094515&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

It may need a bit of work but you may find you pay next to nothing for it. It's worth emailing the seller and asking if there is a fully working cartridge with it.

Better still hang keep watching eBay until a Becenter 5000/7000/7002/7007/7700 comes up. Superior in every way to the 2000 series Beocenters but still not expensive.

Thanks that is a big help...I appreciate all the advice...I'm still a bit green around the gills when it comes to these things!

I'm going to have a look at the 2000 this afternoon but after what you have told me then I think I would be better holding on for something better. Also the seller has a very unrealistic selling price and I have a feeling he wont budge.

Do other Beocentres come up very often in your experience?

    Thanks

Re: Pristine Bang& Olufsen Beocenter 2000 with B& O stand and S-30 speakers

If you are looking for a Beocenter for @ £100 I would highly recommend one of the 7000/7002/7007/7700 series.

Beautifully built with the Beocenter 7700 being the best of them with a fabulous amp. Bear in mind though that ANY vintage Beocenter is likely to need some TLC to get back to perfect working order. Nearly all of them will require new belts on the cassette deck & the turntable stylus is likely to be getting past redemption if it is the original one. Ageing capacitors is also likely to be a problem at some point.

    As for the 2000 - personally I wouldn't waste my time/effort & fuelWhistle

Compared to other (non B&O) music centres of the era the 2000 is OK, and with the S30's you will have a reasonably smart decent-sounding music centre. The issue is that the aftermentioned 7000 series centres are much better in every respect and don't  cost much more money, rendering the purchase of the 2000 a little pointless.

Yes I've been looking at the 7000/7002/7007 on the internet and they look fantastic - nothing on ebay unfortunately other than a 7007 for spares.

Is ebay generally the best place to find them?

    Thanks

Very well put Simon & exactly the problem with buying a BC2000Smile

I sold a fully working almost mint 7700 with a cracking MMC4 cartridge & MCP remote for £93 - the buyer couldn't beleive what he got for his money. I was sad to part with it if the truth be known but SWMBO insisted...........

eBay is the best place to find them, but you will probably need to be  patient. In the meantime you may wish to keep an eye out for some suitable speakers, the s45-2 would be a good place to start. One of the members here has a pair on eBay at the moment.

I'm in the midst of rebuilding a very tidy 7700 with the 2-way master contol panel remote...  definitely my fave of all this style of Beocenter.

It, along with a not so nice but very worth saving one will be available. The 3rd (and best) I'm keeping Smile

    I don't suppose anyone's got a stand/cabinet/whatever it's called available? [:'(]

    welcome to beoworld!

i would recommend just what everyone else already has...

    a 700x/7700 and a pair of early s45's or perhaps p45's...

i like these centers very much. this series can be remote controlled, i am 99% sure the 2000 can't... the series is cosmetically very similar (same footprint) -the 700x has a clear cover over the ttable. the 7700 has a solid aluminum cover.

the 7700 also has the ability of 2 way communication with the mcp as rayfenwick mentioned. this might be nice to have if you decide to expand your system into other rooms w/ a mcl82 setup, and then you could use the regular 1 way terminal in the main room.

the s45 is the best "bang for the buck" speaker b&o ever made, IMHO, and the p45's are very elegant when wall mounted.

also, the cabinets (SC70, i believe ...different location than present, and also SC77) are beautiful pieces and will fit any of the 7 series. btw, there are matching stands to the base of the cabinet for beovox speakers of the era.

    enjoy!

Couldn't agree more with all advice given. The most valuable bit of the 2000 is the cartridge which is a MMC20S and if perfect should be about £30. The centre to get these days is the 7700 or similar. It will need new belts for the cassette and it will need a little TLC as said above, but it will outperform any new music centre. The 2000 was simply not very good even when launched. The finish around the base is not even real wood. The amplifier is particularly poor - the 7000 series has a superb amplifier in contrast.

Re: Pristine Bang& Olufsen Beocenter 2000 with B& O stand and S-30 speakers

I went to have a look at the BC 2000 yesterday - it is in excellent condition albeit it doesn't have the same quality feel as the 7000/7700. I was surprised at how good the s-30 speakers were...but would probably upgrade to the s-45s or s-60s at some point.

The seller seems to think it is worth the money but I told him i there was no way i was paying £195 - I think i could get it for £120 but I guess you guys think I would be mad right?!

The reason I'm considering it is because it is in a cabinet and I know they are hard to come by - he also said that on the 7000/7700 the turntable lids often break or dont hold up - is this true in your experience?

    Thanks

    James

Re: Pristine Bang& Olufsen Beocenter 2000 with B& O stand and S-30 speakers

Hi James - it's all a matter of what you think it is worth. Now personally I wouldn't give him more than the value of the cartridge & speakers (£60 maximum) but having owned a couple of the 7000 series centers I wouldn't even contemplate buying it! The S30 speakers are OK but nowhere near as good as S45-2's.

There is an inherent weakness in the lids of ALL beocenters due to the nature of plexiglass which isn't confined to the 7000 series. It really depends on how well it has been cared for. The cabinets aren't THAT rare and often crop up on ebay for vey little money.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but the most expensive/valuable part of the turntable based Beocenters is the cartridge/stylus which will cost well in excess £100 to replace from Sound Smith in the USA.

    Hi Chris

Yes the seller was telling me just how expensive the cartridges are! Although he offered to give me an extra one IF i paid full price (£195).

He reckoned if he sold everything separately then he would get £70 for the cabinet, £50 for the speakers and another £100+ for the center itself.

I'm still really torn between waiting for a 7000 series to come up and getting this one and maybe upgrading the speakers at a later date.

    Arrggghhh decisions decisions!!

Re: Pristine Bang& Olufsen Beocenter 2000 with B& O stand and S-30 speakers

If he sold it all separately he would get:

£40 for each if the cartridges if they both work, but they will be getting to an age where that is far from certain, even if they have never been used. The suspension can harden due to age rendering the cartridges useless.

£5-20 for the music centre without  cartridges.

He may find no buyer at all for the cabinet as it's no use to anyone without the centre, certainly no more than £20.

The speakers come up regularly on eBay and gor for between £10 and £30 depending on condition.

£100 is the absolute maximum that that the whole package is worth, with the vast bulk of that value coming from the cartridges and not the centre or the cabinet.

    Simon

Ps: the speakers aren't the weak link, the amplifier in the centre is!
