    Beovox 3702

Just been browsing in a local charity shop that I know sells second-hand hi-fi gear from time to time, and came across a nice pair of the above in teak for £10. I couldn't get the frets off to look beneath, nor could I test them as there wasn't an amp in the shop with some DIN outputs, but was tempted at this price as I thought they'd look rather nice with a teak BM 6000 quad that I'm currently having serviced.

    Are they worth a punt?

Not the worst sounding speakers. A couple of different versions were made but they will all have foam rot. Fixable though and I may even have a couple of woofers lying around. Price seems very fair, especially if they are cosmetically fair. The front grill is glued on and will need careful levering off using a flat wide screwdriver and a spatula to protect the alu edges.

    Thanks Martin

Probably not worth bothering with from my point of view, as I'd prefer to use something like some Beovox 3000 panels with the Quad if possible. Having said that, if anyone wants them, I'd be more than happy to pick them up for £10 and post on if required :)

The P50 and then the P45 were of course designed to complement the BM6000 (I have a 1970s brochure that has some excellent pictures).  They were brought in to overcome SWMBO hostility to 4 large boxes (ie 4 Beovox 5700s) in sitting rooms!

Personally I think they are a much underestimated speaker - they may not look as chic as the flat panel 3000 and 5000 but produce better sound at a lower price!

Bear in mind that B&O could barely give away those flat panel speakers at the end of their time of production!  There was a set of passive BV 5000s on ebay recently that fetched £700 (although I notice another pair appear as a buy it now soon after - was the first a scam to drive up the price!)
