    Picture mute on Avant

This excellent and much used feature can be activated by pressing source>list>AV>source but it seems that ever more button pressing is required! On my LX its picture>mute. Simple. Anyone know why B&O did not make the Avant respond to this BL1000 command or indeed the newer Beo4 P.Mute? Teletext commands are also changed so the BL1000's large, reveal, and mix (useful single button actions) do not work.

I spoke too soon! My Avant (MK2) will not mute the picture using source>list>AV>source as described in other threads. Is there no way to switch off the picture on this version?

    Re: Picture mute on Avant

David, the only way I have ever been able to mute the picture on my Avant (32 vhs) when wanting to listen to a sound source is by doing this.
Whilst watching TV or Sat, switch off, then while it is parking itself, quickly press AV, Radio, CD, Phono or A Tape.
I'm sure this is not the way it is supposed to work, but it works for me.

Try to put the Avant in V.OPTION 2. Then the sequence source>list>AV>source should work.

It's the ability to turn off the picture whilst listening to an audio source through your Avant's speakers.

    Frank,

My Avant picture mute works in V.Option 2. For e.g TV>list>AV>TV. The picture mutes followed about one minute later by the motor stand returning to the standby position and the tube turning off. I have an unconnected BC9500 in the room which switches on to Aux when I do this. Is there another option to mute the picture without affecting the BC9500?

    Thanks for the help

    David.

No. It's actually A-V.AUX. Its in the list if you add it.

Put the BC9500 in A.OPTION 1, then it shouldn't listen to video commands.

    /Frank

The 9500 still opens the Aux port using A.option 1 and V.option 2 at the same time as picture mute. This is OK unless I want to mute the TV sound and listen to the radio. It then becomes a problem because volume and muting is simultaneous on the 9500 and Avant.

I assume that something so simple with the LX (picture>mute) is rather more difficult to achieve with the Avant Mk2. Maybe earlier Avants were not like this?

Then you have 2 options. Buy a MCL converter to connect BC9500 and the Avant, or put the BC9500 in option 4. Then you have to use LINK->source  to operate the BC9500.

Add P.Mute to the List of Beo4

    Edit

Sorry didn't read it all... But option 2 and then AV + source will work

You mention adding P. Mute to the Beo 4. I do not see that on my Beo 4 as a possible button to add nor is it listed in the Beo 4 guide on the B and O site. Is that a recent addition to the Beo 4?  If P. Mute is added will it work with a BV7-40MKIII?  Thanks

    Re: Picture mute on Avant

    Hi Razlaw

My Beo4 is not new at all, and P.Mute can be added in the functions list. You have to press Standby+List at the same time. You will see Add? in the screen. Press Go and List till P.Mute appears in the screen. Press Go and P.Mute function will be added in your Beo4.

    And yes, P.Mute works with a BV7 Mk3.

    Cheers

Thanks!  I guess I will need to order a new Beo 4 as our newest one (we have three)  does not have the P. Mute function.  I have gone through the entire list of functions that can be added and it is not there.

Have you tested the older ones? Maybe they have the P.Mute function.

    Re: Picture mute on Avant

Sorry folks, but what a load of rubbish am I reading!

Don't know where to start but I'll give it a start.

First of all, how are the avant and the bc9500 connected?

How/where are the speakers connected? On the avant?

Are they not, then both are in option 1 and do not set the avant in option 2 and the bc9500 in option 1,

That will give you problems when using track, volume etc.

If you want the Avant to be the master in the system, the BC9500 has to be connected through a ML/MCL converter and the speakers (if there are speakers) has to the connected to the sound board on the avant.

Only then the avant needs to be in option 2.

If there isn't an surround board in the avant, or extra frontspeakers are available, it will also work.

With the above mentioned setup the avant is the master and the BC9500 the slave.

If you're watching TV/Sat, DVD or ..just press Radio/Cd without the AV instruction.

The avant automatilcally turns off. It knows it´s not needed anymore. Only the speakers will remain on.

Only if you´re watching TV/Sat and want to mute the picture but still listen to sound of it, then you press AV followed by the videosource.

But there is a difference between switching to AV-videosource while you´re watching already or when the set starts from standby.

Pressing AV-Source while watching gives you 3-stereo if you have speakers attached to the avant.

Starting from standby and pressing AV-videosource will result in only 2-stereo. If there are speakers attached, then the speakers are used, otherwise the avant speakers are used.

If you want to listen to the radio while watching tv/sat then you have to use AV-radio/cd etc.

If the avant and the BC are not connected to each other, both has to be in option 1, and the tv has to be turned off manually.

My first avant I owned was in the beginning from 1995 and still own an avant, the  32 RF DVD type.

The function P.Mute on the Beo4 will not work on an Avant.

    Re: Picture mute on Avant

Both are in option 1 because they are unconnected. A-V.AUX or source>AV>source will mute the picture but only when the Avant is in option 2. This is not ideal because as you say volume/standby etc is not independent but it does work.

If the Avant would respond to picture>mute (as the LX etc) or p.mute (BV7 etc) there would be no issue. Unusual for a B&O product?

    Thanks for the reply

    David

Can you suggest the best way to attach an ipod to an Avant and have it play through the speakers without the screen being on?
