Advice Needed, Lintronic or Update to STB contoller

Need some advice regarding whether its better to update the STB controller or go for a lintronic box of tricks.

First & formost I want to control my Mac Mini which I understand has had its Apple code set applied to the STB controller for the BS2/Avant system so therfore this is one way of controlling it, or alternatively go for a lintronic box which is alot more flexible etc but does it have any draw backs that I would need to be aware of.

I was reading up on it online about the option of using it with the masterlink but is anybody using this feature 7 how are you applying it for your system etc

I would also like to control lighting but how practical is that with the lintronic box or will I end up with several of these & a lot of headaches.

Lots of questions I know but I would like to get a users review of the above.

    Thanks in advance

Lintronic is great but might be overkill for something as simple as controlling one component that could be integrated by simply updating your unit.  That said, if you'd like custom solutions then I don't think you could find a better solution then Lintronic.  Just know that the programming requires a bit of technical proficiency.

The technical part should not be a problem, but if I do get a lintronic box then I will look into controlling more kit namely my DVD as well even though the DVD will be ripped to the Mac.

What I am trying to delve into more is the not talked about features that I had mentioned in my previous post about the integration with the Masterlink etc, what would be good to hear is from other users about how they have integrated their Lintronic box with their system & what they are doing with it etc so I can get a real world view of the applications.

Re: Advice Needed, Lintronic or Update to STB contoller

    Hi Simon,

I would go for the stb controller update instead of Lintronic. The apple remote has 6 buttons with 12 commands. You can use 10 of them with Beo stb controller, but only 6 with the Lintronic box, because it can do up - down - left - right , but not up long - down long.... 2nd reason is you can use the stb solution in linkrooms, which might work with Lintronic - I tested that interfacing datalink in SCART cable and it worked, but I don`t have it in daily use....). I love the Lintronic box - I have 3 of them, and a relay board controlling my curtains - but I use it for cinema control in the living room with macros, and another one in my son`s room controlling his Samsung TV, Digiality stb, Xbox, Beomaster 3300...also with macros and it all works great.

So I will use my mac mini with the PUC controller of my BV7. Hope this helps.

    Stefan
