Beolink 7000 with XTRA Active Speaker kit for the 7000: Remote not working with XTRA unit

    Help!

I am setting up a NOS XTRA Active speaker kit (the one with the round eye that the Beolink 7000 hangs on) with a Beolink 7000, Beolab 3000, and Beosystem 4500. I have connected the XTRA kit with the MCL cable to the speaker 2 connection on the 4500.

    Here is what works:

Beolink 7000 with the 4500 in 2 way mode

    Pentas connected to the 4500

Mute switch on the XTRA transceiver properly turns on and off the 4500 system remotely, and turns on the Beolab 3000 speakers connected to the MCL 2AV.

Beolab 3000 speaker displays the proper source and volume, and play music.

LEDs work on the round XTRA transceiver.

    What doesn't work:

I get the dreaded "no contact" on the Beolink 7000 with the XTRA transceiver. The 7000 does not command the XTRA transceiver. I can not get a response out of the Beo 4 remote either.

The combination of the 2 manuals that came with the XTRA kit and the Beolink 7000 provide a confusing explanation of how to put the 4500 in Active Speaker mode, and set up for Option 2. I think I did all that right.

Can someone help me figure this out? Is there a good reference manual for the whole Beolink 7000/Master Control Link setup?

     Thanks! Gregg

UPDATE Beolink 7000 with XTRA Active Speaker kit for the 7000: Remote not working with XTRA unit

Quick update: the Beolink 7000 does work in one way mode with the XTRA transceiver when it is hung on the transceiver unit. However, it will not work in one way or two way mode when it is off the wall charger. It is almost as if there is a problem with the IR receiver on the XTR transceiver.

Problem resolved. I took apart the transceiver and found multiple wires that had not been properly trimmed during manufacture, that looked like they might be shorting to the case. Sure enough, after trimming the wires and re-assembling the XTRA 7000 transceiver, the Beolink 7000 works fully in two way mode. YEEHAW!

Well done - rare bit of kit you have there!

Thanks! By the way, I have to say the sheer number of individual cords is a bit ridiculous to make this work:

MCL cable with connectors from the Beomaster to junction box

MCL cable from junction box to the MCL 2AV

Cheesy wall transformer with cable plugged into the MCL 2AV

Cable from bottom of XTRA unit to the MCL 2AV

Power cord from the XTRA unit

2 Powerlink Cables to the speakers

2 power cords from the speakers

9 total cords/cables! It will be cool when all of this is hidden, but it certainly isn't designed to be easily concealed. Not including power in the XTRA cable is particularly unforgiveable - surely the voltage for the transceiver exists in the MCL 2AV unit and could have been easily incorporated in the interconnect cable.
