    Beogram rx2 skips easily

    Hey All,

Just recently received an rx2, and love it, but am wondering if I have it set up correctly.  it skips very easily, almost if I tiptoe beside it, and when i stop the record, the platter grinds briefly, can someone help me set it up?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Have you fully undone the transit screws. The platter should bounce up and down when pushed down.

Thanks! That helped a ton, am I supposed to unscrew each screw so that the head fits in the larger of two holes?

    Thanks,

    Joe

More or less - unscrew the the transit screws until they clear the metal discs then turn the discs to line up the large holes with the screw heads and then screw them back down as far as they will go.

You may also need to reset the tracking weight, here's how to do this :-

    1. Put a record on the deck and press PLAY.

    2. When the stylus sets down unplug/switch off the beogram at the mains so the tonearm stops in the play position (simply hitting the stop button wiil cause the arm to return to the rest position).

    3. Turn the counterweight outwards until the tonearm is in a "floating" position IE zero tracking weight.

    4. VERY CAREFULLY hold the black part of the counterweight and turn the silver ring with the graduations on it until the "0" is at the top - (you will probably find this is the case at any rate which makes life a lot easier).

    5. Turn the WHOLE of the counterweight inwards until the correct tracking weight for you cartridge model which are as follw :-

    MMC1 & 2 - 1.0g

    MMC3 & 4 - 1.2g

    MMC5 - 1.5g

    6. Job done & all that remains is to restore power.

    Chris.

Thanks Chris, that was exactly the info I needed, as far as tracking weight.  The screws are now completely screwed down, tight, the platter is bouncing, but there is still a slight noise, like a mild grind when I stop the record, any thoughts?

    Thanks again,

    Joe

Is the sound more of a scraping noise and coming from the platter?

In that case it's probably one or more of the leaf springs on the suspension that need adjusting. There are 3 of them - copper coloured - spaced equi-distant under the platter. If you look at the platter there is likely to be a point where it is lower when you look at where it sits in the surrounding top plate and this is the spring which has sagged slightly. It's a while since I've worked on one of these and I'm unsure if there are adjustment screws or not. Either way you can simply bend the suspect spring back up and this should solve the problem.
