    Beocom 6000 and Beocom 1

    Hi folks!

I currently own a Mk 1 Beocom 6000, purchased in 1999. It's been fantastic, definitely the best cordless phone I've ever owned. The other day it was monkeying around a little - when i tried to answer the phone it wasn't working so I missed the call, pressing the answer button had no effect. When i tried getting a dial tone subsequently I was just getting a high pitched intermittent beep. I removed the battery and reinstalled it but the phone was then completely dead. So I charged it and it came back to life but wasn't connected to the base station. I reconnected it and it's been fine since so I'm assuming it was all caused by an almost dead battery.

ANYWAY, this event led me to wonder about getting a Beocom 1 and if the two are compatible? Could I connect a Beocom 1 phone to my 6000 base station?

I looked at the Beocom 1 system and according to the sales guy at the local B&O store, you have to buy THREE pieces of equipment - the phone, the base station and the charger. On my 6000 the base station IS the charger. What gives? Is he telling fibs so he can sell me something I don't need? Why would they split them up in such an annoying fashion? Considering B&O's typically simple design, it is counter intuitive that they'd make it more complicated than necessary.

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

NO, the two phones are definitely NOT compatible - the BC6000 is 1-line and the BC1 is 2-line.   The BC6000 will also support up to 6 extensions vs. the BC1's 8.

The guy at B&O is correct.

    Thanks for that.

But what about the three pieces of the Beocom 1 (charger, base station and phone), do you actually need all three?

    Why would B&O DO that?!

Yes, you do.  The combo base station/table charger that exists with Beocom 6000 doesn't with BC 1 - they're separate.  Not sure why B&O does this - perhaps better reception, perhaps because it costs more.

That's crazy IMO. Definitely puts me off buying a Beo1 when/if my 6000 does eventually die. Which hopefully it won't, ever! lol

I can see the benefit: the base station needs to be next to a telephone socket (and can be even hidden), while you can place a separate charger stand where ever you wish. The sockets aren't necessarily in a convenient place.

I take it then that the base station isn't a big cradle like on the Beocom 6000? I've not actually seen a picture of this base station. In that case I'm thinking probably they did it this way so they can charge you more!

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume, since you say it's a multiple line system, that they had to do it separately because of that. How big is this thing? It's annoying that they discontinued the 6000 or I'd buy another hand set.
