Re: Rare B&O AV7000 Surround sound decoder!

Hm. The guy can't actually get it working. But it does appear to be an authentic 230-volt European AV7000. The real issue is that it appears to be missing the Device Controller (STB-C) functionality that North American AV7000s have. This detracts a great deal from its value...

Rare to see and I believe only a few prototypes were made.

The lid on this one is obviously not correct, it's from a Beomaster 5000 or 5500. It should have been black mirror, like the rest of the 7000 system, like this one :

Looks like the rear cover is missing as well. The picture on Beoworld seems to be my Beomaster 7000! I have seen this used on eBay to sell AV7000s in the past!!

Much more structured than the one, I had. Mine had lots of discrete soldered wires from board to board.

I suppose this one is a production model where mine was a prototype.

Does this one have a serial number label at the back or underneath and AV7000 lettering on the front ? Mine hadn't.

    Hi Martin,

can you please let me know where you got this picture from, as there is someone on ebay using the same picture to sell an AV7000?

    Thanks

That is one of Martin's pictures. Not the first time someone has used them to  sell an Ebay item.

Yes, that's a photo I took a couple of years ago.

The AV7000 pictured was a prototype and went to a new owner in Sweden.

(Here is one more photo of the same AV7000, note the lettering on the front only says Bang & Olufsen - no model name or number).

I am thinking getting one of these to use with my non-B&O TV for a few years until I can save for the BV-7 or I may wait until the BV-7 is retired (maybe a long wait but I have a 40" 1080p already). How can you connect it to modern systems? Sorry for the noobish question.

RARE?  I seriously thought you were joking when I first read this thread title.  Maybe they're rare in Europe, but on the US ebay market there's definitely no shortage.  In all seriousness I've seen 3 of these on ebay at once in the US.  The prices vary ridiculously though.  When there's more than one on ebay at once I've seen them go for as low as $75 US.  On the other hand when it seems like there hasn't been one on ebay for several months and then one all of a sudden shows up it can sell for over $300 US.  If I had known you guys thought they were special though I would have bought them and then relisted them on the UK ebay Stick out tongue

EDIT:  After reading the posts again you guys must be talking about a different one, right?

Yeah they are. This one is an EU model. It was never released in the EU only N.America. There are but a few rare prototypes around.

Is there any functional difference other than the power voltage?

I dont think so. It looks like the US version has the STB-Controller and wasn't included in the EU version. I am looking at buying one of these myself. I am not really sure why as I onlt have BL4000s and next is the BS4 or maybe 5. I just love the design of this era of B&O.

I know what you mean Austin....it's the 230v that makes it rare....i'm using one of these too...and it seems to do the job just fine....got mine off ebay as you say in mint condition for about $200 usd....

How are you connecting it to your system? I want to use one with a non-B&O system but I don't know if it is possible.

Re: Rare B&O AV7000 Surround sound decoder!

If you are in Japan then you will obviously want the 110v NTSC model, which is far more common. And the AV7000 is designed to work exclusively with non-B&O equipment, however there is a quite limited subset of devices it can control. There is a list floating around somewhere which is either on the site or can be easily uploaded to it.

Due to the age of these now, is the STB list not a little outdated?

Hi, I just bought a complete secondhand beomaster 7000 system and this niftly av7000 unit  came with it.....

Right now I use this one as just an extra controller for my beomaster (which is in another room) . The dolby surround is a very nice feature, though not up to the expected high-end standard of 2008. However for a condo dweller like me it's sounding way better than my 2 year old pioneer dvd all-in-one unit ever did. It connects very simply through datalink and powerlink and is controlled easily by beo4 remote. I plan on using it as a home theater sound processor (I do have 4 beolab 4000 speakers) further to giving me full controll of my beomaster 7000... what more can you ask for .....

However the stb controller is totally useless (I've tried .....) and will be ripped out. Or maybe it's possible to replace it with either an updated version of the original (made by a co named amx in texas usa????) or by an external stb control system....

Anyways...I find this a usefull unit and I consider it an extention of my full beomaster 7000 system. Oh, and it just looks cool as well....

    Kindest regards,

    Giz.
