    New rear speakers ?

Hi, I am about to get new rear speakers for my system. I have been looking at both the BeoLab 3s and the BeoLab 4s but I am not 100% satisfied with any of them.

Does anyone know if there will be some new speakers released this autumn ?

    Best regards

    Hans

If you weren't happy with BeoLab 3's as rears - were they switched on?!! Unsure

I can only really suggest BeoLab 9 as rears if the 3's didn't float your boat. What are you using as fronts?

Not happy with Bl3 at rear?!?!?!?!? Surprise I don't think that anything between the 3's and the 9's would be released anytime soon... So buy BL5, or check that it wasn't your 5.1 encoding that was not good enough...

BeoLab 3s are perfect as rears if you've got something like BeoLab 3s, 9s or 5s as fronts, as they give you all the advantages of the acoustic lens (ie, not just blurting sound out into the room in a largely uncontrolled fashion like most loudspeakers), but they also give you enough volume output for any rear-channel application and are immensely flexible (rear speakers should always be placed higher up).

    Re: New rear speakers ?

I have  BL 8000 as surround and BL4s as rear surround; I also have a pair of BL3s in a bedroom for listening. .

If you are comparing things to the BL5s you will not be happy with anything else.

I used the BL8000s mostly because of the way they looked and they fit better with my decor.

I think when you're looking at BL3 and up it's a matter of taste and aesthetics as much as anything. . . assuming of course you're using BL 5s in the front

I'm ready for something new that I actually want to buy!

Hi, thanks for all comments. I'm sorry I left out some information in my post.

     - I have Beolab 6000 and a Beolab 2 as sub. Everything is bought in 2004. The 6000 most for the design which I think fits my room perfect. With the Beolab 2 I also think the sound is really, really good. Dreaming of BeoLab 5s in the front some day of course.

    - The reason I am not satisfied with 3s or 4s is the design. Since it is 250 km to my nearest dealer I have not have the opportunity to listen to either one of them.

    Please keep on posting.

    Best regards

Save up and get a pair of BeoLab 5s as fronts, and use your BeoLab 6000s as rears! You could even sell or part-exchange your BeoLab 2 to bring down the cost of a pair of BeoLab 5s. Look for an ex-demo pair too!

    Re: New rear speakers ?

I have Lab 3s front with a Lab 2 and Lab 4s rear...and my set-up is great imho. My Lab 4s are fitted facing downwards about 8 ft up on the back wall above the sofa. For watching tv films, videos and dvds the Lab 4s are perfect...if however i had wanted to listen to music on Speaker 4 Mode then i would have bought another pair of Lab 3s for rear...although i do sometimes play Speaker 4 Mode at low/medium volume levels and it still sounds good to us!

    Re: New rear speakers ?

I think putting the 6000s in the back and getting a pair of 8000s as front speakers would be a good thing to do, especially as you already have a sub. An alternative would be a second pair of BL6000...

    Re: New rear speakers ?

Thanks for all comments. I use a 7-40 MK III as TV in this room.

A pair of 5s would be great in the front and the 6000s great as rear spakers. The problem is that the sofa covers the entire wall. I need some rear speakers that I can place on the wall.

    Still confused, keep on posting.

    Regards

    Hans

    Re: New rear speakers ?

If you need to place the rears on  a wall, then your choice is either BL4000 or BL4. I would not choose the BL3, as they would overpower the BL6000. I would choose the BL4, because they are quite decent in their look an still strong enough for a rear speaker.

    Re: New rear speakers ?

Tom ist right! the bl 3 would overpower the bl 6000.

you´ve said you have a space problem caused by your sofa! Isnt there enough space for bl 6000

another solution would be to get the 6000´s with the new wall mounting

    I want a BV 10

    Re: New rear speakers ?

Wall mount the BeoLab 6000s! The brackets are very good IMO and the BeoLab 6000s are ideal as rear speakers unless you're really going to be playing super-loud movies. Means you can get BeoLab 5s as fronts then. May seem a long way to stretch, but as you know, it's a lot of speaker! Wink

    Re: New rear speakers ?

Hans's sofa covers the whole back wall.
6000s on wall mounts would look a bit daft half way up the wall above his sofa!
Might as well dangle them from the ceiling like the crazy russian 8000 picture.

    Poor me, never win owt!

    Thanks for all comments.

I have decided to go for a pair of wallmounted Beolab 4 since my room is pretty small and I am more than pleased with my sound as it is.

    Hi Joff !

As I wrote I will place a order on a pair of 4s tomorrow. I was wondering how you have attached your 4s to the wall, facing downwards ? I would like to hide mine behind the sofa, and face them upwards instead. Is that possible ? Do I need a wallbracket ?

    Re: New rear speakers ?

Have a second look at the Beolab3's. They will not over power your other speakers, you can easily raise or lower their dominance. As surround sound progresses you will be thankful of having the additional oomph..

    Re: New rear speakers ?

    Hi Hans!

I think the 4s are the right choice. I would not hide them behind the sofa but put them at the height of your ears in viewing-/ listening-position and I wouldn't attach them downwards, because they look better the other way.
