Re: Which Beomaster amplifier to get?

It depends on what kind of setup you want.

If you need something to be on a link setup I would go for a Beomaster 7000. However if that would be a stand alone system my preference would be somewhere between 5000, 5500 or 6500.

Of course all above it's a matter of personal taste as well!!!!!

I agree with Spiros, but take a look at the Beomaster 4500, its build in the same year range as RL 60s but in my opinion also a beautiful piece of art, and after getting one of these, I'm shure you will get the Beovirus and start completing your BeoSystem 4500

    Hello,

Sure, the RL series fits well to all Beomaster 1900/2400 and 5000 family products, Just about preferences about the appearance and functionality. the 5000 family is more compact, but the 1900/2400 family has the looks Wink

Another choice can be a Beocenter 8500/9000/9300/9500 model, with integrated cassette and CD player, then you'll just need a Beogram turntable Smile

I would recommend periodically correct gear to go with your RL's, but it will equally work fine, even great with older Beosystems.

Re: Which Beomaster amplifier to get?

Initially i started the RL 60.2 set-up in basement as a link room with a beolink passive. However, I now want to make it  stand alone.

I read a lot about Beomaster 4500. There seem to be a more like in the forum for the Beomaster 4400. I may want to start watching on ebay for a 4400 or 4500 - not sure how much different they are - any inputs in that regards?

    Thanks

Its little confusing to see names for products not matching the family names...check this link

    http://beocentral.com/receivers

The Beomaster 4500 is listed under 1900 family..and there is one beomaster 4400 under 3000 family

    They are both correct. Wink

You are looking at two completely different animals. Both excellent in their own way.

The 4400 is perhaps one of the best BM's ever made and is outstanding on its own.

The 4500 is the last of the "flats" and highly desired. Wall mountable and can be joined by the rest of the BS4500. You want at least SW2.1 so that you have 2-way.

Re: Which Beomaster amplifier to get?

For pure versatilty you cannot beat the Beomaster 5500. Loads of inputs which are mirrored with DIN & RCA sockets. A very good amp & will match the RL60.2's very well.

Can be controlled with any of the remotes (except the Beolink 5000) from a Beolink 1000 onwards. I have one which I use for all sorts of applications - from using as part of a system 5500 to testing other equipment. You can add other components at your liesure as with the 4500.

Are looks a key thing for you, in terms of either fitting into an existing interior and/or making a statement? Some Beomasters are more attractive than others...

    certainly looks are important.

Form what I have read here the flat beomaster 4500 and beomaster 5500 are top on the list.

The 4500 is certainly a good looking Beomaster, with the 5500 less so in my opinion (though it is more versatile as Chris pointed out). There are a couple of nice shots of the 4500 in the 'Flash Your B&O' thread. You might also see some other nice shots of other Beomasters in situ that you might find interesting as you contemplate what you would like to buy :)

After all the inputs I am leaning towards a 4500. How much max, I should plan to spend..Is $200 high?

    Any Ideas?

In the states... I would consider that on the low side.

Buy the best one you can afford. Cosmetics are key to these as the mirrored panels do not hold up well. Look at them the wrong way and they will scratch!

Pay attention to the SW level as mentioned. Not that the 1-way systems are bad, but you may regret it later should you ever buy a BL5000 or 7000.

The 4500 is certainly a good looking Beomaster, with the 5500 less so in my opinion

No doubt about it - the 4500 is much better looking than the box which is the 5500 and will sit really well even as a stand alone unit. Performance wise (for passive speakers) though the 5500 beats it.

The 4500 isn't lacking in inputs either :- Phono, 2 X tapes, Aux & CD, all are 7 pin DIN though. Either tapes or the Aux input will be fine for an iPod connection.

$200 is a very good price for one, but as has already been pointed out, cosmetics are really important when it comes to price with these.

I would consider a Beomaster 6500 or 7000. The reason for this is that they are a bit more flexible. You can use passive or active speakers, so if you decide to upgrade to Beolabs you'll be ready..

A setup I sometime have used is a Beomaster 3000, Beogram 3000 and CDX from the mid 80's along with a set of Redlines. works well and looks good together

Not as versatile as the other sets mentioned but as a stand alone system it is just fine.
